GalCiv2 IDE II Info

Kryo, is it possible for you to remove the posts, since I've taken the old version offline?

If not, can you create a new sticky thread for me please?

I've uploaded a new version of GalCiv2IDE, which is 1.0.5.5
This version includes a mapeditor.

@ Kryo
is it possible to upload the tool(1,44MB)as it gets more stable at some point to the library, since its not directly a mod?

Yes, once you have a stable release that would be fine.

Kryo, is it possible to maybe delete the old stickied mapeditor thread, since a lot of links are posted in there. Some people may get confused.
If you do, could you copy mr nastytangs last postings into that one?
It's quite time consuming to keep 2 threads uptodate with same topic

I can't move replies, but I can sticky this thread in place of the other one since it isn't being actively developed presently. Just edit the top post whenever you've got a new version, or if you have any description/instructions to give.

Please include a random map button with larger than gigantic map size. It would be saved as a map and selected in-game. Gigantic maps are 18 sectors, which is not enough for realistic space travel.

Mr. Korx,

-please include a random map button with larger than gigantic map size.
It would be saved as a map and selected in-game. Gigantic maps are 18x18 sectors, which is not enough for realistic space travel.

-Perhaps a 72x72 sectors of maximum? This would be in a correct relationship with the range of ships (current starting range with flagship 4 sectors) and with the amount of stars and habitable planets in a 18x18 galaxy with rare and sparse settings. Of course the number of celestial bodies increases and distributes to the new sectors as densely as with the 18 sectors galaxy.

(All the hab planets have been settled. This setting has completely enough habitable stars even with rare habs, occational planets and abundant stars. All the other setting have them too many! In fact, this amount of habs should be in common habs setting! There should be more space, more stars and less habs.)

-In a map of 72x72 sectors the new range techs (life supports) should begin with just 4 sectors or even less!

(4 sectors of starting range has enough stars but way too big portion of the entire game field! AI also colonizes half the galaxy in a too short time with normal difficulty. Ships should be confined to small portion of the galaxy without techs).

Btw, I think that Galciv 3 should have Celestia style galaxies.

Actually, I've played around with random map creation, the results were quite "humble". I'm not a big fan of that feature, because getting to a random generator, almost as good as stardock's ingame one, would take a big amount of time, if a lightning does't strike me instantly, delivering a good and easy solution for that
Secondly, correct me if I'm wrong, I read somewhere, the gameengine is limited to 18x18 sectors, hence no map greater than gigantic will be available.
I think making a map should take you a bit of time, then you will really enjoy your work, but if the majority ask strongly for that, I might implement one. However, I think with the starsystemeditor there is an option available to rather quickly create a map.
I only whished, one could save a random generated map ingame

Kryo, another question appears, how is the naming convention for the localized game version, ie for german:

Path=..\Data\German\german.str ?

same pattern for french?, and how many localized versions do exist?
It'd be nice to know, since the IDE currently uses filepaths depending on the english version.

@Nasty

did not work

I'll have to look into that (Cari seems to be off to lunch right now).

I recall you are having .net 2.0 & 3.0 installed? If you don't actually need .net 3.0 for work, you could give an uninstall of 3.0 a chance. It might be an issue with the .net framework, but it could also be a senseless move

It'd be German\english.str (the string file is always named english).

Thanks a lot, that info helps , but what other localized versions are out(besides german)?

If I think about it, your answer is enough to solve the problem
