Starting In GalCiv II (Dread Lords)

Hi all. I am first time on this forum but since I bought GalCiv II I am loving it. But the thing is that I need help about something. (Sorry if this topic is allready covered somewhere)! So I love GalCiv II but the thing is that I am basicly UberN00b when it comes how to start game. How hard I try I cant begin nicly. Computers allways have more than me and i dont have money nor aprovall so i can hardly recover.

SO if any of you can tell me some strategie about how to start.

And one more thing. Can you help me is there any map when i can play on gingantic map and all civilizations but that we are seperet from each other so we can develop nicly for some time and later we can fight wars!!!

And one more thing. Can you help me is there any map when i can play on gingantic map and all civilizations but that we are seperet from each other so we can develop nicly for some time and later we can fight wars!!!


Play on a galactic map and just put one other race.

You will find many different stategies but my advice would be to start small. Play on a small map on normal or lower with just one or two other nations that are easy to get along with such as Torians and Acreans. Play as the Humans as well. Just get a feel and experiment untill you find a strategy you like.

That's my advice too: small map, a difficulty less than normal, one or two other opponents.

And follow Brad's Beginner's Strategy Guide, which will help you understand all the menu choices, and guide you through your first few turns.

agree, Brad's beginner's guide is a good way to start.

the problem with asking for strategies is that people have lots upon lots of them, and many individuals are fiercely defensive of how much better theirs is than everyone else's.

my advice in addition to starting small is to read the strategy forums (you can isolate them by clicking on the "Forums" on the left side of the main galciv2 website, and then find the Strategies group). you'll often be able to find discussions that are related to specific issues you're facing. it would be overwhelming to try and take in so much if you're not familiar with the game already, especially because people use so much shorthand. but once you're fairly comfortable with the basics, it's a great place to peruse for small tidbits, observations, and especially things you might want to try in a game of your own.

Sorry to contradict (maybe it's just me   ) but the Torians and Acreans always declare war on me first. I suggest Korx, seeing as they concentrait on trading.

No, there is no multiplayer component to GalCiv2.

I played as you told me on medium map (or small) against 2 races and i easily won. I used strategies like first build more factories focus everything on reasrch and social prodouction and later on reasarch and military when i get a lot of colony ships again on social and research and later balanced. But the thing is that it was too easy, not just Computers but game and all. Is it just me or when you take less difficult game it is also easier to get money influence and all?

Well, it's not supposed to be hard to build your civilization. The difficulty is in building your civ faster than your opponent's, and then destroying theirs. Try a game on "tough" difficulty, which is the fair level where neither you or the AI get any penalties or bonuses. You can probably try a larger map against a few more opponents, too.

I tended to start small, Normal or below difficulty (you'll probably get slaughtered on "tough" at first, But its worth a look), with few opponents, chose peaceful ones, be diplomatic at first, stay neutral, don't develop armies too early and aggravate opponents,
This will give you loads time to practice with the economy, resources, making allies, influence exploitation, starbases, spying , trading etc .
Once you're more familiar with these aspects then you will have plenty of skills to aid you in developing a military and learning to kick some galactic ass.
