Slugging through the Huge galaxy with nine different AI races, and Beta 2 for DA had me thinking how much I'd not want to play a huge galaxy again even though this is by no means the first huge galaxy map I've played on, but simply due to the fact that mid-late game I tend to grow tired of having to go allllll that way over there *points to the other end of the galaxy map*, and mob up the remaining planets the AI has. Plus it takes me days (not that, that's a bad thing necessarily) to play through a huge map.
It's a tendency that spans back to Colonization, Civilization, and other similar games. I tend to take greater pleasure in playing the first bit of the game, the early rush so to speak, or what I guess is best referred to as the Early game, before Mid.
And often times I find my self playing through the early parts more so then Mid or Late game. And I suppose that's primarily because I tend to lose focus/interest/motivation when there's a multitude of planets that needs babysitting, sliders adjusting, great distances to travel ect. Even though I find that Gal Civ 2 at times, has too few available adjustments (go figure).
But the moment I go back to looking at a Large galaxy after several hours/days of staring at the Huge one, I think that the Large galaxy is tiny in comparison.
I tallied up the sectors that makes up both sizes, and Large is made up of 8 by 8 sectors, where as a huge is 12 by 12. So I was wondering how viable it would be to implement a custom slider, or simply more Galaxy Sizes in the DA galaxy setup menu.
Something like 10x10 would probably fit me just right. Obviously it's a personal preference of mine, I realize that.
And I know, I could just as likely try and find a happy medium by selecting less Stars in the system, but I find it very difficulty to get it "just right" with the amount of available stars, planets, and habitable planets.
