I did get one PQ 26 but was in a bad way, stuck in a corner with no bonuses. |
Actually this is the planet that you want. Unless by in a corner you mean the corner of the map and you can't get the SB's all around it. A PQ26 will upgrade to a PQ32 on going neutral, or after you get all the terraforming techs. And the corner position in a sector ensures you get the 16 SB's covering the planet. The 20 SB's you got is a nice bonus but it's rare to find a suitable planet in the precise position. Also this doesn't quite make up for the low PQ, but the precursor mine is a nice touch.
I wanted to see what the real pros like you could get. |
Ah shucks. I'm really not a real pro, but I do know folks that are (Magnumaniac). Actually, 90% of the battle is simply knowing that a certain thing can be done. Once you see something like this you'll have no trouble replicating it.
One thing is, the better the planet the more expensive it is to run. Notice the 1600 bc deficit it takes to support such a planet. Also, this isn't necessary to win a game and it can be quite tedious to set up, but it can also be fun to do. Many games I don't really find a suitable planet so don't bother with it.
The final caveat emptor is you can build a monster like this and *still* be out researched by the suicidal AI. This can be very disconcerting, but you can usually out research the suicidal AI in a limited area such as beating them to Doom Ray for example. This is usually sufficient to ensure a win.
