Ship designs don't reappear... need help

Hi everyone,

I seem to have the opposite problem of most people : Instead of my ship designs reappearing from game to game, they simply don't reappear in later games.

For example, my human-design ships from my terran game don't appear in my games
with other races that use human designs, and vice-versa.

and, ship designs I download from the library (LOC human pack 2 for example) don't
appear in my games either !

All my ship designs, as well as those I have downloaded, are in the correct folder,
c:\my documents\my games\galciv2\ships. I also have the collector's edition bonus parts, so that shouldn't be a part of the problem.

Am I missing something here ? Is there a way to "activate" the designs from within the game ?

Thanks for any help !

Have you researched the needed technologies to activate the ships? They don't appear until they are possible to build, so if they have any weapons, engines, etc on them they won't appear right away.

Are you playing a metaverse game? If so, downloaded ships need to go in tmy games/galciv2/metaverse/ships instead of the normal place.

Also check miniturization. Even if you have all the needed componants, if you don't have enough miniturization the ship won't appear.

I find that my progress through the tech tree changes so much from game to game that I can rairly find previous designs. So what I do (and I borrowed from others on this forum is to design the look of my ships without any componants (other than hull size). That way the blank ship appears as soon as you research the hull tech. Then I add functional componants based on what I have available at the time and save under a new name.

I have the same problem as the OP (both in Metaverse games and stand alone ones) and can easily recreate it at will in 1.31.
Start game with my 'standard race' selected, on the very first (or even second turn) create a ship with two hyperdrive engines and save it.
Start a new game with exactly the same parameters as the firstgame and the darn ship ain't there! (but it is the the GalCiv2\Ships follder or GalCiv2\Metaverse\Ships folder)

J.M. good suggestion, I would adopt it it if only the goddamn game would remember the ships!

Hi.

I got the same problem.

i think I have found the bug.... When you upgrade the game from 1.0 to at least 1.1 version, the files of the ship's configuration have changed to the newer version, it add a new XML file to describe the shipcfg file (before upgrade the game, only the shipcfg is necesary to add new ships in the game).

I have tried to add the old ships and change the files manually, modify the new created ships (NEW xml files created by the program) to describe my old created ships... but i afraid that it isn't enough becouse there are lots of news parameters and lines in the new shipcfg files that i dont understand.

My easy solution is create again the ships, with the newer version of the game. But you can investigate this for your own if you are so desesperate, adding the new parameters of the old shipcfg files or trying changes.

Anyway good luck.
