Some ideas I had for random events for the Stargate mod. You may find them familiar.
Random Ethical ChoiceText: One of our squads has been infested by a symbiotic artificial intelligence. It seems to have been designed to gather information through it's hosts' experiences. It's creator has approached us and offered to share the information with us, as well as that which he has already gathered, if it is removed - but doing so will kill it. Leaving it where it is will allow us to obtain some information, but the team will be forced to live with it for the rest of their lives. What should we do?
Good: We cannot kill this poor creature, but at the same time we cannot stick our own people with this burden. Have it placed inside its creator. (No Effect)
Neutral: Our team can live with the creature, can't they? Leave it where it is and see what they can learn from it. (Small Research Bonus)
Evil: Big deal. It's just a machine - a downright
annoying machine, too, from what I've heard. Rip it out of their skull and download the information. (Large Research Bonus)
Colonization Ethical ChoiceText: We have found a vast, natural deposit of trinium on an isolated island on -Planet's Name-. However, a displaced human tribe known as the Salish already inhabit the island. Their nomadic lifestyle occasional takes them away from the trinium deposits, but they have stated that actively mining for the mineral will disturb their "spirits". What is your decision? (No Effect)
Good: Leave these people in peace. We have no right to steal their resources.
Neutral: Mine the trinium, but use only non-destructive technology and only when their migrations have taken them away from the deposits. (Small production bonus)
Evil: You think I care about some mythical spirits? Enslave these space-indians and put them to work in my new trinium mine! (Very large production bonus)
Choosing the evil option for the above choice will eventually lead to the following event:
Random EventText: Disaster! There has been a rebellion on the planet -Salish Planet's Name-. The Salish tribe have risen up, assisted by a strange race of alien beings, and have taken the planet from us!
Effects: Creates the "Salish" minor race, in control of the above mentioned planet.
Colonization Ethical ChoiceText: We have uncovered something hidden on the planet's surface - an Ancient power source even more powerful than conventional ZPMs. This device draws its power directly from a parallel universe. The power produced would drastically increase our production. The higher the output of the device, however, the greater the chance we will draw from an inhabited universe.
Good: Do not activate this device until you can tell me, for certain, that nobody would be harmed, in this universe or the next. (No Effect)
Neutral: Activate the device, but only take as much power as you can while be reasonably sure that you are not harming an inhabited universe. (Small gain in production, small increase in the chance that negative random events will happen in future games)
Evil: And you're point is? Turn the thing all the way up! (Huge gain in production, equally huge increase in the probability of negative random events in future games)
I can't think of any more right now. Suggestions?
