This is a game I played that has been dramatized in one form or another. Because it was played on a Gigantic map, it took a really long time to play out to the end. So, it will be in several parts. I play as humans in this game. Remember, its been dramatized... somewhat. One more thing, please excuse the lack of screenshots.
Part 1:
And so I begin. All of my opponents are at least at intelligent level, some at genius level. But anyway, I choose the good old trusty humans. Because I like a little bit of historical realism in my games, I decide that the name of my civilization will be the United Nations. Of course, I don't know if it is going to exist in 2225 A.D., but I can be sure it will exist for a long time. Anyway, I start off at Earth, with the explorer ship UNS Voyager and the colony ship. Because the initial colony ship is slow, I decide to create a much faster one, nicknamed the Breeder. With 2 hyperdrive engines, it can travel at 3 pcs per turn. The initial colony ship is used to colonize Mars. Mars will be my research world.
Some time goes by, and I head out toward the nearest stars, and then the farthest stars. Somewhere along the way, however, I run into this class 26 gem! I immediately order one of my existing ships to colonize it. This new world, colonized in June 2225, is dubbed Aurora, named after the greek goddess of dawn. This planet is relatively close to Earth as well. In addition to having a rating of 26, it also has some very good tiles too. It has 3 manufacturing bonuses, 1 precursor artifact, 2 food production bonuses and some remains of a civilization. Aurora soon became the crown jewel of the Human Empire.
Besides Aurora, other notable, and important, planets in the United Nations are Trantor (Class 15), Muhgal (Class 12), Reach (Class 13), Novaya (Class 18), Hawking (Class 16), and Nimzovich (Class 12). These planets are my primary economic and industrial bases. My research worlds are usually the small ones, with not so good quality. The UN Colonial Administration has agreed that this is the best way to specialize these planets. After all, experiments now a days can be quite dangerous and its safer if they take place on lower quality planets. Also, they are unlikely to be targets.
When I was in the process of colonizing Reach, I made first contact with the Thalans. They didn't seem to like our reckless move on giving hyperdrive to the other races. Now that I think of it, neither do I. But, whats done is done, and we have to move on. Eventually, I make contact with our old buddies, the Acreans, and then the vile Drengin. The Defense ministry is informed of the Drengin, and we keep an eye on them for now. I eventually meet all of the other races, and almost immediately the races start taking sides.
Sometimes, events occur that require me to make a decision about my alignment. Since I'm going for a diplomatic victory, I choose the good choices so that I can get along better. Of course, being good does put me at a disadvantage, and puts me at odds with the Drengin. The Drengin, by the way, are currently the most powerful race militarily. But, they don't pose any significant threat as of yet, so I pursue other things.
I eventually establish trade routes with the Altarians, the Thalans, and the Acreans. In addition, I have a high degree of diplomatic skill thanks to trade and diplomacy improvements. The gem of my empire, Aurora, has become the cultural center of the Galaxy, now that it has the Restaurant of Eternity on it. Also, it has diplomatic translators as well and is one of the major centers of trade. The center of trade and economics goes to Trantor, which has the most trade routes and an economic capital. However, the military high command has suggested boosting more resources to defense, as Trantor is quite vulnerable. So, we put together 2 class of ships that took advantage of the Stinger IV and Deflector Technology. We came up with a new class of starships designed for mostly defense, the Apache Class. With a medium sized hull, 2 Olympus class missles and the most advanced deflectors of the galaxy (I'm not kidding), this ship can blow anything out of the way and can withstand quite a punishment. Though not tested in combat, we decided to use it to defend some of our important worlds. Otherwise, I use starfighters for basic defense.
It would seem as if things are going good. After all, I have good relations with the Acreans and the Thalans, and no one really hates me, save for the Drengin and the Korx. My economy is great, I have the largest empire in the galaxy (28 planets), and moral is very high. Unfortunently, all good things must come to an end. Just recently, we have heard intelligence reports that the Drengin may be plotting sabotage. Also, the Yor have been quite pissed off at the Acreans, my main trading partner, and have appeared to be building up a military presence in their sector. This is a problem for me because they are my main trading partner my economy is very influenced by them. The UN High command has suggested that we conduct espianage on our public enemies. Also, I have decided to spend a little more on weapons research because I'm a little worried that we might get dragged into war. Luckly for me, the Alterians, a race that I do have good relations with, have quite a strong military, so things are stable, if a bit tense.
As I sat in the chancellary hall at Earth, I mulled over the things to come...
