expanding the tech tree

i am very new at modding but i grasp the general concept of how to do it. so what im planning to do is creating a all encompassing star trek mod. new star trek ships, new star trek races, the tech tree, everything. i had a idea to create a multipile era kind of thing with star trek. start out in enterprise time, have all the ships and technololgys from then. then when you research the entire tech tree have it unlock into the original series tech tree with those ships and everything. and have this continue until the distant star trek future. is it even possible to have multiple tech tree and have the ability to unlock them when one tech tree is completed?

The only way you could really do it in the game I think would be to have one main branch of expensive 'tech level' technologies, and have all the other technologies coming off those. So Tech Level One would give you your enterprise time techs, and Tech Level 2 would give you your original series techs, etc.
You can't really have two techs or more leading to one tech. It works fine technically, but looks awful on the ingame tech tree.
