I was playing 'Warning Forever' just now (it's a freeware shooter game) and was just thinking, "Hey, ships in GCII =never= have this much guns on them.. why not?" See bosses in that game as is customary in shooters nowadays have about eight guns at the minimum. Correct me if I'm wrong but whenever I got dreadnaughts I never even approached that kind of weapon mass.
Now I know there's good reasons this isn't default, they don't want people wasting too much time putting duplicate weapons and shields onto ships, but isn't it possible someone would like large and huge ships to be =bristling= with firepower? Not to mention you might even be able to put Tiny hulls to use finally (even as cheap patrol-ships they lack the space for sensors, engines, and weapons that would be essential to such a design).
However, how would the AI cope with the data being changed? Would they use the extra space, would they mount double the defenses and weapons because they're now cheaper and smaller? If such a mod made the game cheesy it just wouldn't be worth it, I love mods that totally change the game while keeping it feeling consistent (HalfScale mod for DoW), but not ones that just ruin the challenge or feel wrong and inconsistent. I'd be glad to do the grunt work of finding all the values for weapons and defenses and changing them (granted I am clueless), but it just isn't worth it if the AI can't utilize it properly.
