HELP needed - soldiering and recapturing planets

I am playing as the humans. The war is going on between me and the Drengi. We are roughly at the same tech level, and I have somewhat better ships, so it's not going so bad (even though I am a new player, and I play on challenging). Anyway, the problem is that the damn Drengi have just occupied one of my planets. During the battle, I saw that their "soldiering" was something like 25, while mine was about 5 (don't remember exactly, but his rating was far more powerful). The enemy had much less troops then me, yet he won the battle without any trouble. Question - HOW CAN I EVER RECAPTURE THAT PLANET? With his soldiers being 10 times more powerful then mine, I'd have to send my entire empire to attack him! Or is that "soldiering" some kind of bonus that the attacking side gets?
If not, what would be a good strategy in my situation?

Your Soldiering rating is increased by various racial benefits (which the Drengin have alot of) and technology. The Planetary Invasion branch of research has several techs that increase soldiering as well as providing other benefits. Also, the attacker is always is given a significant bonus to their Advantage (that random number that gets chosen just prior to the action, which is also affected by Soldiering). Even with your low soldiering, it is definitely possible to recapture your planet.

Attacking side gets a "5" soldiering bonus, and don't forgot soldiering techs come into it (planetary bombardment and defence branches)

To my understanding the game favors offensive side which is attacking a planet, as you SHOULD build ship and fight in the galaxy, not on your planets, which can be mass driven... Said that, I wonder how hard it can be for you to recapture the planet. Simply make new soldiers, develop new techs and get rid of 'em! GL

Research all the planetary defense AND offense techs. Both tech trees give you soldiering bonuses. Depending on how concerned you are with your ethical alignment, you can always choose those ethical choices that give you soldiering bonuses.

I think the planetary invasion ratio is backwards. You can't invade into an area that has far more troops, even with better tech. You need a pretty serious numerical advantage to invade an enemy.

Then again, the US Army/Marines did whomp a much larger Iraqi army a few years ago, so who knows.....

Germany versus Belgium? When they invaded with panzers against mostly horseback cavalry, they won. Didn't need to resort to numbers (although they had them)

A few years ago? I live in England, and our troops are still dying. Last time I checked, so were those from everywhere else.

As English is not my first language, I don't understand what you meant here.
You can't invade into an area that has far more troops, even with better tech. You need a pretty serious numerical advantage to invade an enemy.
The Drengi had far less troops then me when they invaded. BTW, how can I see the number of troops who will defend the planet? Before Drengin transport arrived, I had no idea how many their troops were on board, and how many my troops would defend the planet.

So, in the end, does this mean that there's no point that I even try to recapture it before developing all that planetary defensive and offensive technology?
