Not sure if it is a bug, glitch or other. If this is in the wrong group please let me know.
Just played a rather long game but unfortunately I forget what most of its settings were. However by the late stages of the game it was down to my custom race and the Thalans. We each had about half the galaxy with them slightly ahead in tech but I had a massive economic and military advantage. They declared war on me (I was hoping for an eventual tech victory) at which point I abandoned any long term strategy and decided to wipe them out. Took several months to get my production swung around to half a dozen large fleets to wipe out all their military followed by EVERY planet over a pop. of ~6billion whacking out high speed, 3 adv. troop module invasion units, all loaded up to full and just wearing down every planet one at a time.
And here is where it gets interesting; realising that the Thalan capital had 22,000billion people I figured maybe one or two fleets of these invasion ships might be a better idea. Therefore I sent 3 of them (9billion troops) along with mass drivers to batter them. In the end the assault succeeded and I took the planet. Once into the planet screen my surviving troops of ~100million had grown to 4 TRILLION. This obviously led to some upset people on that planet which dropped my approval from a comfortable 70% to 1%. I figured what the heck, it's a glitch, keep going. Ended the turn and immediately half my empire split into a rebel faction - 7 of my most productive planets including my capital. Clearly this would not have sufficed so I did a reload from my last autosave (I figured it wasn't really a save/reload cheat as it was a game glitch that forced it) and tried it again but splitting the transports up and using them one at a time. It worked fine after that and I went another few months before they caved and surrendered. Wimps.
Has anyone else seen anything similar?
