Mouse M.I.A

when i play GalCiv II after a while the mouse icon goes M.I.A but i can still move th emouse and it hilights some of the icons but the game is unplayable

It's a known bug. As a workaround until we figure out how to fix it, please use the hardware mouse option. You can set this in the prefs.ini file in My Documents\My Games\GalCiv2 folder if you can't get to the options window.
