I must say that so far the ship yard is my favorite feature in the game. However there are a couple of minor things that frustrate me at times. There are times that selecting the desired hardpoint can be very difficult. Most often this occurs on the more densely covered ship parts when they are made smaller then the original *ideal* size.
It would be fantastic if you could tweak the camera to allow the user to move the model in the 2D plane that you are viewing instead of just rotating it on a fixed origin. This again would help in lining up the exact hardpoint I want to place a part on.
There are times where the *red* colored hardpoint arrows are difficult to make out. Most notably when you have *red* as your main hull color. Also it happens when a part is shrunk to the point where the hardpoints start to overlap.
Also it would be nice to have a clearer idea of what the individual meshes represent in terms of components. Some are obvious like the engine parts have a *race engine color* facing. But some of the parts don't have an obvious function just by looking at them.
Suggestions on how to fix:
1. If you could just highlight somehow the hardpoint that I'm about to click. Turn it green or something on mouse over.
2. A way to select a hardpoint before selecting a component basically reverse the present system.
3. Maybe a list of all the hardpoints along with the highlight from idea one. Select - green - place next part I want.
4. A popup window allowing the user to enlarge and look at a particular piece before actually trying to fit it onto the model.
