Multiplayer will arrive? Where did you hear that?

In opposition to the previous post, one would hope eventually. I don't believe that they've said whether or not they will FOR CERTAIN include multiplayer but I believe the Frogster (Frogboy) said that the capabilities are built into the game if they need to one day add multiplayer to GC2.

I bought the game and harassed everyone I know to pick up a copy though my own younger brother (a fairly large gamer) is being a tard and blowing me off about the game...but it's cool, I know where he lives.

I'd strongly recommend that you pick it up now and enjoy it a little bit while waiting for the multiplayer, that may, honestly, never show up...though I hope it does too.

In regards to multiplayer they say:

So what we’ll probably do is have an expansion pack that adds multiplayer. The people who want multiplayer can thus buy that feature and those that don’t aren’t forced to have to pay for it.




Actually gamers should encourage multiplayer functionality because this means more copies will be sold which increases the community and the chances of sequels. I know myself and many in my family I will be able to convince on buying the game once multiplayer is available.

I'm wondering when this expansion feature will arrive... now this expansion may arrive within 1 month or 24 months. Either way is fine as long as it's stable..... I'm just wondering if we could have an estimated timeframe of when Multiplayer will arrive. As soon as multiplayer arrives I'll definitely be buying the game.

And what about normal hot-seat?

You can play a quasi-Hot seat game with someone by loading up the game as GalCiv2 cheat (use the cheat parameter). Then when you set up the game, you let the AI play out a few turns and then have your friend pick one of the races they want to control. Have them select that unit and hit CTRL-SHIFT-Z.

A full fledged hotseat or network hotseat would be sweet. Some of you guys should really stop tearing down ideas that you don't like.

If you wouldn't play mp, fine. If you don't like tactical combat, great. Some people do, and every time a thread comes up about one of those topics it's fills up with negative responses like NEVER.

I like hot seat but would prefer LAN so both can see combat unfold that they are involved in. I remember a dev post about the fact they had time and money to either do multiplayer or the ship creator. Polls were taken and people prefered the ship creator. I totally agree with the decision. I have a couple of friends who would play multiplayer but the time I would play single player WAY out does it.

I hope there's a multi-player expansion introduced somewhere down the line, because like NTJedi said it would probably increase sales of the standard game.

Though as for myself I can't imagine ever wanting paying money for the "privilege" of having some obnoxious kid hurl poorly-spelled insults at me. (The AI-controlled races are much better conversationalists than the average online player, and much more polite, even when they're threatening to eat you skin. ) If a multiplayer expansion comes out, all well and good, but I'd probably give it a miss and just wait for a nice new SP campaign.

Yeah, there's that, but I'm hoping since "quasi-hotseat" is basically already there that development time on that type of mp would be signifigantly shorter. Like you say, if it's a choice between a metric shit-ton of single player content and multiplayer, I'd have to go with the single player content. I'd like multiplayer, but not to the point of missing out on more great single player content.

An expansion with multiplayer will sell to more gamers than an expansion without multiplayer. The future of your new favorite game means getting the developers to sell as many games as possible.... which means multiplayer since lots of gamers don't even do singleplayer games.

I'm sure many of you hard-core singleplayer fans won't use the multiplayer option but the game should move in the direction of what will bring in the most money for the game. More money means more sequels or expansions.
Also the multiplayer function is a one-time feature to add for selling the game to the multiplayer gamers.

I will not buy a multiplayer expansion.Give me a more advanced spying system,better exploration,ect anyday.Just how many people play 4X games online? bugger all.

I just want hotseat ability, lan or internet play doesn't interest me really.

I would buy a multiplayer expansion. You can have the hardest AI in the world to challenge players, but it just doesn't compare to the fun of going against a thinking opponent. An AI can throw a few curves your way, but there is a huge difference that sets a human apart from an AI: the human opponent feels fear, shock, betrayal, and wonder.

The AI doesn't fear the wave of your ships approaching its homeworld. They aren't shocked to find out you're spying on them. The AI doesn't feel betrayed when it discovers you have been using it as a pawn in a war you had no intention of entering and were just trying to weaken the AI's military before you attack them. And the AI doesn't wonder what secrets you are keeping from it.
