My nickle for what I would like to see in GC2 as an enhancement, or perhaps for GC3.
1. Player control of tactical combat. Sure watching my ships fight is pretty, but it gets old pretty fast. I would rather I could conmtrol them. Turn based tactical would be okay, or some kind of relatively slow realtime would be okay (like Homeworld). With the relatively small numbers of ships in the fleets, this would be more feasable than it would at first appear.
2. These ships fly like atmospheric fighters. Big fighters, but fighters none the less. WW2 fighters in particular. They should be more sedate, have turrets, or they turn and fire broadsides, something like that. Something to make it feel more like these are giant multi-million ton star battleships duking it out, and not X Wings from Star Wars.
3. Drop a zero (or two, or three) off the population numbers. I know its a small thing, but the notion that a brand new colony has billions of population in only a few years is a tad bizarre. Plus the 'soldiers killed' line at the end saying X billion soldiers killed is strange. Bring them down into the millions from billions. Only really old and well established worlds should have a population measured in the billions. Particularly when you're talking about the tax payers, and not the total pop. I know it makes no real difference to game play, its just arbitrary numbers, but I think it would contribute to the atmosphere.
Anyway, thats my nickle.
So far I'm quite pleased with the game, and the only real issues I have with it are points 1 and 2, but they aren't fatal (and 3 is just an irksome little detail).
Later dudes!
