(Modding) Adding New Ship Models, First Attempt--Bird of Prey

Prefaced by saying that I did *not* make this model. It was authored by William Burningham and I found it at this site.

That said:
Bird of Prey In-Game

It's a pretty high quality model, so I can imagine that a few of these ingame would bring a good system to a halt. Colors/textures are wrong--the engine is painting the whole ship with the hull color for the civ. I'm pretty sure that issue has been discussed before, but not in much detail (?). I don't have access to the editor used to create the model (3d Studio Max), so I couldn't mess around with that. Adding the model to the game is all XML, though--very straightforward.

Some great Star Trek meshes for the freeware editor Blender can be found at Star Trek Blender. I'm new to Blender so I haven't been able to get them exported to the .X format correctly, though. Something related to the textures, I'm sure. Maybe I'll make a colored box and see if that looks any good ingame.

In any case, I'm certainly looking forward to learning more about modding GalCiv2.

Very nice.. look forwarding to seeing many more from all the various Space shows and movies etc.

Babylon 5 will be a good series to do as well.

Ok its a site that has plenty of blender stuff ~ just happens to have some fan made SW stuff. Its not primarily Star Wars like I would have led you to believe..

Supreme Shogun: Crap, how'd I miss that site! BlenderWars looks like it'll be very, very useful...

For that, you'll need to have hardpoints... without them, you simply CAN't add anything to the ship (I know, I tried it and had to manually paste a hardpoint from an existing ship model into the .X file to make it able to accept components).
