Civilopedia needed!

Hi,

I really LOVE the game overall so far, but I simply cannot believe there is no civilopedia type of feature to show the actual game effects of the many technologies.

How are players supposed to decide which future technologies are critical to their overall strategy when they cannot see in concrete terms what any of them actually do?

Examples:

I see "new propulsion techniques" will give me a new ship component called "hyperdrive plus" and let me later research Ion drive. Wonderful, but how much better is hyperdrive plus than what I already have, and what benefits will I receive for researching Ion drive, and what do THOSE things actually do?

If I want to figure out early in the game what I need to do to build a battleship or a certain type of social project, and build a long term strategy around that, I have no convenient way to do that unless I have played the game enough to memorize all that information.

A fully hyper-linked civilopedia is almost a necessity for a game this complex, and not having it severly undermines the entire game - which is a shame because the gameitself is so good.

Totally agreed.This game is far more complex than civ4 so a civilopedia is really needed

I'll chip in my two cents that such a feature would be extremely nice, as well. And not a crappy one like Civ 4 has, but a decent one like Civ 3 (if I recall correctly) had.

Then again, at this point I imagine it would take an extremely long time to create such a thing.

Yup, I agree, though can't you see what each tech does by scrolling on it? Maybe not, haven't gotten too far, but I thought you could.

Well the first galciv didnt release with a tech explorer either if I remember correctly. Hopefully one of the updates will add this

CIV4's wasn't TOO bad...
but i would LOVE (even demand) a Galacticopedia? (...all i had,like Xeno Techs)...

No disagreement from us.  When things calm down, we'll put together a thread on what you'd like, discuss how the UI could be done and see what we can put together.

a galacticopedia shouldn't contain only information about tech tree. in my opinion a galacticopedia which contains also informations about buildings, projects and core aspects of the game could be very good.
if stardock could introduce in galacticopedia history about major civilizations and minor civilizations (which we don't know nothing about their history) it would be a memorable job from developers which all customers should never forget.
anyway i prefer a galacticopedia very well done which could be downloaded after months, instead of a galacticopedia not so good because rushed.

The Encyclopedia Galactica is probably one of the most boring universe fact guides in well, the universe. The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy defines the people who wrote the Encyclopedia Galactica as: a bunch of mindless morons who will be the second to go after the sirrus cybernetics corp. in the Galactic Revolution. Basically, the Encyclopedia Galactica is a jumbled book of useless facts, therefore, don't buy it.

Correct!! Someone who knows their sci-fi. Great series...well, the first three. The less said about Gaia the better.

Anyway, in reference to the main topic again, I also agree that some type of in-game reference guide is needed. I am still voting for it to be called the Encyclopedia Galactica.

sorry.. loosing some of my sanity as I cannot play the game yet. I dont know how much longer I can go on like this...
