Drag and Drop. Make sure you point the shortcut in your start menu to the new location of the data. Also if you penetrate the options of SDC you will find a section where you can tell it the destination folder you wish it to go to when it installs the game and what you want the shortcut in the start menu to be named. I cant remember the exact menu and sub menu to go to because I am at work and it sucks my brain out. This is all assuming you are running windows.

Ah, no. Because the registry would not be corrected. The game won't run. Best bet would be delete and reinstall, changing the destination folder in the install screen. Any game puts entries in the Windows registry. Without these the game is not recognized by Windows. Unless of course this game doesn't do that. Which I would find hard to believe.

There are utilities that can move folders and change the registry settings as well. There might even be freeware ones. But I'd be careful. Badly coded proggies like this can mess up your registry permanently, making your computer unable to boot at all.

Norton Utilities comes to mind, but it's rather expensive.

Maybe you can use SDC to archive all the elements you downloaded and then restore it to the folder you want.

Correct me if I'm wrong, I just glanced at the default folder before I changed it... But is the default destination set to My Documents? Just curious. I hate when games do that.

The default folder is not set to My Documents (though the save games go there under My Games\GalCiv2).

Per the above comments, Stardock Central has an option to prompt for the installation folder.

If you've already installed it, you don't have to set the option and redownload. As the bits above say, use Regedit.exe and adjust the Path value at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Stardock\Drengin.net\GalCiv2 to point to the location you move to. If you're not comfortable with regedit, just try not to, I don't know, hit the Delete key?

If you're living right on the edge with your C drive space, you may wish to explore alternative options to "why must the galciv2 save games go under My Documents."

You can compress the directories. Or make a junction point to redirect them elsewhere. I don't know offhand that there's any way to alter the root for the saves. They are per-user based.

Hmmm..well here's what I did to move from drive c to drive e...1) Archive GC2 program, multimedia, etc seperately using SDC 2)when SDC asks you if you want to archive everything while doing main GC2 program choose "no" since that will archive the multimedia, etc with the main program and mess up updates, 3)after archiving is done, uninstall GC2. 4)change install directory setting in tools-->settings-->games 4)restore GC2 and all other parts of game. 5-10 minutes max on my slower machine.

BTW its a good idea to keep at least 1 archive version of each downloaded program, preferably on DVD-RW, in case your main copy goes bad or in the rare case when the latest update is messed up.

Anyhow, if you do a search for Microsoft's TweakUI powertoy, you can use that to change the location of MY Documents to another folder or antoher drive, if you so desire.
