Hurray for ideas that dont make sense... |
It makes sense. The fact YOU think it doesnt make sense doesnt change anything
If anything a smaller ship should be able to accelerate faster since it has less mass. |
A smaller ship can accelerate faster but has smaller range. Not only that, but small ships cant support crews for a long time (each turn in GalCiv2 equals one week right?)
A jetfighter can accelerate faster than an aircraft carrier. Thats so obvious. But that doesnt make an aircraft carrier useless. Quite the contrary. Jetfighters have small range. Also they need a base of operations close to the fight. You dont hear about LONE JETFIGHTER fighting a battle far away from their country of origin.
Wow, I think the World´s governments also dont understand about physics, since they build aircraft carriers.
I dont like the how people with such little physics background can come onto forums and start talking about it as if they were proffessors. |
Funny. You dont know NOTHING about my physics background. Physorg.com website is my default browser website. I discuss EVERYDAY in forums against moon hoax believers and other bad physics stuff (I am quite the skeptic, dont believe in spirits nor paranormal phenomena, nor in conspiracy theories).
I want a mod that:
-Doesnt allow people under the age of 16 to talk unless they have proven themselvs |
I am 27.
-Physics filter, if you make a reference to bad physics your keyboard slaps you |
Hmm... you are the one making bad refenrences about physics. Have you got your slap today?
-A search function for the forum so you can find other carrier threads... (oh wait one already exsists)
|
This forum is not the most user friendly forum around. Quite the contrary. I missed the search function.
Have you ever heard about nuclear pulse propulsion (Daedalus, Orion)? Proposed in the 50s and capable of reaching around 10% of lightspeed (fission), 50% (fusion) and 80% (anti-matter/matter reaction). If US government funding to this sort of propulsion had not been cut down to invest heavily on a worse (but easier to dominate fastly) propulsion method, that of common chemical rockets, which was done so US could reach the moon before the commies, humanity would probably have already reached jupiter moons in the 70s (as far as all project cronograms indicted).
Anyway, in nuclear pulse propulsion, the LARGER the ship, the better. Thats because in space, unlike in air (again it seems you dont know much about physics) you must carry all the propellent inside the ship. The ideal ship size for a Orion or Daedalus ship would be hundreds of meters in size with a few hundred thousand tons of mass.
Such ships would be able to reach Barnard´s Star in 10 years.
Now... a small ship would NEVER have enough propellent to be able to acelerate to near light speed velocities and reach another star.
The big lumbering ships would need to accelerate for weeks/months to achieve big speeds, and they would sit ducks in a space battle, if another big ship deployed small agile fighters.
So there goes all your stupid theories and bashing.
Next time, think better before saying someone else doesnt know about physics.
