I mean these guys pretty much don't quit. I am on my first game on anything but beginner difficulty and I got placed in a large cluster of stars right by then in the bottom corner of the map with the next closest group being the Torians about 1/3rd of the map seperated from use (maybe 25-30pc of empty space between us and them) on a gigantic map with abundent everything and normal research.
Those Korx hit me early. They declared war after about a year, but was a bit of a mistake on their part. They military compared to mine was laughable. They had maybe 40-50 light and heavy fighters compared to my 0 at the time. I had maybe 80% as much population, economy, and planets as they did (heck they even had a colony on Mars!).
Their mistake is they declared was and then DIDN'T attack me. I spent about 20 weeks researching up planetary invasion and cranking out what I liked to call my armed privateers (small hull, 2 laser mkIII, 6pc a turn). I then proceeded to take Mars and the other colony that they had within my influence zone easily. I then tried to sue for peace and they wouldn't even let me beg my way out no matter the offer (I was curious so I offered them everything and they rejected it). So I continued my build up, but by this time after my lightening strike they finally started to fight back a bit. Their military might was listed at probably 10 times mine still (I now had maybe 10 armed privateers).
I spent about a year or a bit more researching up some better military techs (finished researching plasma I and ECM III as they were using missiles) and fighting for my life. Apparently they had been waiting because they hadn't researched planetary invasion yet. I managed to take 4 more planets from them that were closer in toward me then their home systems to create a bit of a buffer zone and finally tried for peace again. This time they were all to happy to accept once I threw ECM I tech at them to sweeten the pot. At this point I had frigates running around (medium hulls) as did they. Ship for ship mine were somewhat better (I could usually manage 3 to 4 odds and win if they attacked first, but my last ship would be in sorry shape). My economy was also in sorry shape which is why I tried so hard to get them to accept peace. I was running into the red a lot. I finally have those conquered planets in decent shape and my military halved. Now I am back up to a bit of a money buffer (about 3,000bc) and I am planning on researching the point defense techs and the plasma techs as well as some better logistics and go back in and wipe those bastards out.
They should never have pissed me off in the first place, and now they are going to be put in their place (so much for being the peaceful nice guy and ignoring the military techs at the start). I now have about a 15% edge in population, 10% in economy, 1 or 2 more planets then they have, and better tech (they are lagging behind in everything except logistics where they have something like 15lp to my 12lp).
Their day will come...someday soon, like maybe 6 months or so from now.
