STICKY: Getting the game Downloaded!

Need help? Here's the place

By Posted February 21, 2006 17:20:29

Hopefully things will go smoothly for you to get the game.  But if not, here's a guide to help you..

First Steps..
When you purchase the game you will receive a link to Stardock Central. Download that.

Make sure you are running 2.29 or later (if you've been running Stardock Central for awhile, double check in the about box that you're not using an old version like 2.24).

Downloading
If you're downloading the game and it's slow, you can try a different server.  From Stardock Central go to tools->Settings and the server is in the "Internet" area.  We have several different servers.

Account Problems
If you used a different email address to purchase the game direct than what you used to create an account here, Stardock Central may get confused. If that happens, email support@stardock.com with the subject "GalCiv Account Issue" and they'll take care of you.  If you receive no response within 1 hour, post here and someone from Stardock will likely see it and take care of you here.

Download Speeds
The core game download speed will be slower than the multimedia/movies/tutorials because those are mirrored.  The core game is regularly updated so we aren't able to mirror it as much.  You should still get pretty decent speeds (and a reminder: try a different server if you find downloading too slow or if you get a time out -- bear in mind, there's a LOT of people downloading the game).

If you have problems related to actually obtaining/installing the game, post them HERE in this thread.

NOTE: Some anti-virus software will cause the installer not to work (i.e. it'll block Stardock Central from extracting/installing the game). If you run into an installation problem, try disabling some of your anti-virus setup temporarily to see if that resolves it.

Hello, i think that I did what others have done here.

My Paypal acct is set up under a different email than my Star dock acct.

So, even though i got an email telling me that i purchased the expansion bundle, I can't for the life of me find a way to download it???

Why is this set up so goofy??

I don't think that I want to put my acct info up here so give me a line to you or something please.

.....sorry for not getting this system, its probably very intuitive......

Hello,

I have been trying to download the game using Stardock Central. My first problem was when downloading the 'Movies' from GalCiv 2. It gave me an Installation Error (32) saying that the URL is invalid. I have tried the 2 servers available with the same result.

How should I proceed?

This is the error message I receive:
Download: C:\\sdcentral\gc2_Movies.sdc 0 | Attempt: 3 | -14 The Url is invalid

Try using the Refresh XML button in SDC's internet settings, then restarting SDC. If you have 'show pre-release versions' checked at the bottom of SDC, also turn it off.

If it still won't work after that, please contact support@stardock.com.

Hello everyone. Last night I purchased the expansion bundle for galiv2. When I got the confirmation email about my purchase I started up Stardock Central, but neither of the expanions were listed under the "my games" section. I think I am having the same problem that deedudee300 was having. My copy of galciv2 is in the "my games" section, but it is not registered. I tried to register the game about a dozen times, but have had no luck so far (I also made sure that the zeors were not o's and that the one was not an I). When I try to register galciv2 I get a message that says: The Serial Number you have entered is invalid. Please ensure that the information you have entered matches exactly from your order emal. I dont know if I've gone crazy, but I bought my copy of galciv2 from bestbuy around 1-2 years ago. Maybe the serial number on the back of my jewel case is expired? Any help would be much appreciated.

Oh and I forgot to say that sometimes I get a message that says: "The email address you have entered does not matc our records. Please try again". I registered both Dark Avatar and Twilight of the Anor under the same email address, so could it be that mycopy of galciv2 needs to be registered under my old email address? I have tried that one too, but get the same message as I do when I try to use my current email address. Hmmm. Looking back at the change email request that stardock sent back to me, clicking on the activation link brings me to a page that says: "Your new email address or acount could not be validated." Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance

Serials don't expire. If you're having issues with your serial being accepted, please contact support@stardock.com.

If you get the message that your email doesn't match, it means that the serial you're trying to use has already been registered to another email address. You might have registered it back when you bought it and forgotten. Both GC2 and the expansions need to be registered on the same address in order to download the expansions.

Ahhh. Thank you. How do I merge the two email addresses? Do I do that when I contact support? Thanks again.
June 1, 2008 20:06:20
Yes, support can do that for you.
June 2, 2008 14:03:12
We would be happy to do so. If you already emailed us chances are I will be handling it today for you. If not you can also PM me your account info. Please let me know!

Follow up to my previous plea:

I had paid via Paypal...which used a different email so it confused my Stardock acct.

Once support merged the two addresses it was a snap to download the expansion sets.
Just push install button.

I guess if you are having trouble you might want to make sure that the game doesn't have you confused with someone else! LOL

Anyway, all straightened out and happy with the tech and game support.
I isn't immediate, but it works.

HEY it IS a turn based game, tech support jsut needs to be accurate and that really keeps the game costs down and allows for more expansion work than if they had to have an on call tech line.

Thanks, and looking forward to the next GC game.

Hello,

I have the same issue as Biruhn had, I paid with paypal which uses another email then the one I have my previous purchases on.
As such it refuses to accept my serial number
Sent a mail to sales but didnt hear anything from em, sent a mail to support but havent heard anything yet and I figured I might aswell make a post here aswell.

So I guess the issue wasnt fixed since 2006 (first post)
Anyway, could you please merge my email adress used for paying for Twilight of Arnor with the email I have for all the other games,
I ordered with my @gmail.com but I got @bredband.net for the previous orders.

Thank you,
Vanchelon

I keep seeing this phrase on Impulse that says "no CD's, no trouble!". What a joke. Now I have to wade through all these messages to find out what I may have done wrong. What happened to no CD's no problems. At this point it's looking like no CD's no update because Impulse is too stupid to begin a download. Right now Impulse looks like a worthles piece of junk to me. It downloaded GC2-DA, with no problems, it installed it with what looked like no problems. However, when I went to run it, I had a problem. My PC said I needed to update GC2DL first. If Impulse is so smart, why didn't it tell me this? So fine, I go to update GC2DL, but nooooo, for some reason, Impulse can't download the update. It sits and sits and sits and sits and sits at download starting. So I test the connection using impulses own software. It says everything is fine, but still no download, it just sits and sits and sits and sits. No cd's, troubles, you ought to be sued for false advertising. If this isn't trouble, I don't know what is.

If you're having trouble with impulse downloads, try the alternate download system option in the preferences.
July 25, 2008 12:13:39
I've paid through paypal and received a confirmation email that my payment is done.
How long will it take Stardock to send me further information ?
July 25, 2008 12:20:20
If you used Paypal, chances are the game was linked to your Paypal email rather than your Stardock one. If you contact sales@stardock.com they can confirm if it was successfully purchased and where it went.

I had the problem above with Galciv II not updating. I figured because I used the CD, although previously with stardock central this didnt matter. I used Impulse to uninstall the game then resintalled it via impulse download, worked fine then.

Hi. I've had a recent wave of nostalgia come over me in the last few days and I've wanted to play a few games I haven't in awhile. I installed DL just fine, got it updated fine, played a couple of games fine and dandy. However, I lost my DA serial number, and I'm kind of confused as to what to do now. It should be noted that I've changed my email adress (and subsequently updated my account) from the one I used when I purchased DA, and have recieved emails from Stardock containing the serial numbers from my currently installed games (but not ones from purchases when I was using my previous email adress)

If you contact support@stardock.com with your old and new account details, they should be able to help you track it down.
