but that still seems like a bug? More of a design decision than a bug, and it assists in reducing micro-management. If you're playing on a gigantic with lots of planets, the colonisation phase lasts quite a while and I have many planets building colony ships by the end. Once done I switch m

would like a bigger map too but I am affraid my pc won't That's the problem from Stardocks point of view as far as I see it. Not everyone is as honest with themselves about their PC capabilities (and knowledge) as you are! They get enough muppets complaining that the "game crashes" or "runs too slow"

and I got more than 850 habitable planets! I hope you've got some serious hardware Lets see, if you are playing with no tech trading, then the Drengin will get 85-90 planets as an average, and not
I just attack first, go after planets not fleets, and target all his planets at once. My wars usually last 1 turn. Easy on a Tiny map - go try it on a gigantic where your opponent has got 30-40 planets spread across 20 sectors.
You can do exactly the same thing if you have the pre-req tech - just buy it outright. That's exactly what the Drath just did - but I wouldn't recommend it as it will kill your economy straight away.
Is it me or has playing suicidal become that much more difficult? (1.1-Beta2) Not noticably so in my experience - but then I haven't tried it with no tech trading (and won't either as the AIs are written to take advantage of tech trading - if you take that away from them they have no options available
Doh! I bet you meant the other boss... Didn't you? Either - both have the same unreasonable demands that cut into gaming time. I am, fortunately, safe from the honey-do list until Thusday thou

not currently functioning as planned "Inadvertant design feature" is the common phrase used by devs at my place of work, DG.
Well, I just finished my first game with 1.1 beta 2, and it seemed very stable in comparison to the previous one. If you are unsure at all about running the beta, then I would recommend you just download the latest 1.0x patch (don't try to just run the out-of-the-box version). The angry people you have seen just don't understand what a "beta" version is, so unless you are willing to accept some annoying crashes, and are prepared to send off
the background music and the game skips and and glitches Sounds like driver problems to me, but without a debug file, hard to help out.
Well, if it was a problem with the game itself then I'm sure a fix would be produced very quickly. However, as the vast majority of people running the game are not experiencing the same problem, then that indicates that the problem is not with the game, but with some other combination of hardware / software / drivers etc. Posting the debug.err might help, or e-mailing it to [email protected] - but I guess the devs will be very busy dealin
Population determines the base amount of influence a planet generates - so let it grow.
You do realize that the difference between 69% versus 49% is another 40+% on top of that right? Sure do - but if my setup is making me over 100,000bcs a turn anyway, why would I want to? That weekly return proves that using extensive farms is a viable economic strategy, in just the same way that using
so higher farm is actually bad in terms of economic ability. Sorry, this is totally wrong! Diminishing returns, yes, but not "bad". Morale is not hard to keep up because the negative modifier due to population is capped at -80% which occurs at about 24-25 billion - every population increase after that
Depends where you are from, and whether you use "short scale" or "long scale" number definitions. In the sense that the game representation of "billion" appears to be a "short scale" definition (i.e. 10^9) then you are correct that the decimal point is misplaced as a short scale trillion is a thousand billion, however from my point of view (as comi
though I don't know how you do it. OK, to be fair, it is only really possible on huge or gigantic maps that will have 4+ morale resources available to keep it down to 3 entertainment buildings - more will probably be required in smaller galaxies. The important thing to know is that the nega
It's true farms aren't so useful though because the effect on morale is so significant. Not sure why people think building farms is a bad idea - I always max out the population on all my planets and have 100% approval at 49% or 59% tax rate for the whole game. You do not need 2 morale buildings for ev
and had 8 trade routes going with my nearest neighbours the Iconians Spread it out a bit more - active trade routes is one way to help keep the AIs from picking on you. Try to have at least one with each AI. Can't say I've noticed too much difference in AI war tendencies with v1.1 - the only wars I've
What size maps? Huge / Gigantic - Suicidal diff. The Torians were about the 2nd race to be eliminated in the first game (huge), and I'm making sure they'll be the first elimination in the current game (gigantic - and I'm not using any pop growth bonus). <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL
Gigantic is 256 sectors i belive... Nope... definitely 18 * 18 or 324 sectors - just counted 'em. <TD
That really needs to change... ...strictly targeting Evil Civs with every single restrictive resolution. No - the anti-evil bias of the UP is there for a specific reason, to counteract the large bonuses and benefits you get from choosing the evil events in the first place. If there was no possibl
Gigantic is actually 18 * 18 - so 324 sectors (72900 individual parsec squares). A 32 * 32 would be 1024 sectors (230400 parsecs). Have you any idea of the sort of computer you would need to run a game that big? Consider that every turn each AI has to evaluate every other ship / planet / starbase that they can "see" and decide if they need to do anything about it. Might as well make your moves, hit "Turn" and go to bed hoping that the AI is
Yeah b4 the beta torians were no super power, but with the beta they have dbl the population of everyone else Just more fuel for the furnaces... Makes the game a bit more challenging, which is nice - my
