I've played some other races, and only get up to medium hulls, even after researching large scale building etc. Some tech says it enables battlecruisers, or survey ships, or battleships but no default designs become available, no change to hull availability. I've still found no way of building a starbase (constructor) - I assume o

Nothing else comes to mind right now... seems A LOT more stable and was fun to play... I'm going to test it out more when I have some more time for sure! Funny, I found Beta1 to be solid as a rock, but I'm getting loads of crashes on Beta2! I'm suffer

Any reason for the DX9 requirement? GalCiv 1 could be played on almost anything. Like The Seer I don't play many games so my card (Matrox P750) was chosen because of other features (AGP card supporting Dual DVI at a reasonable price). Civ3 and SimCity 4 run fine on it so it'll be pretty disappointing if GalCiv 2 will have problems. </T

All interesting, I'm sure Stardock is well aware of Valve's STEAM system and all the controversy over Half Life 2's activation process. Alot of very unhappy customers were created over that, so be careful how you put your own system into effect. Valve created themselves a public relations nightmare on that one.

You know, being a bloke, I never noticed that. There are alot of TBS games out there which didn't allow you to pick your races gender though, so I wouldn't say Stardock are a special case here. On the other hand, the only time you 'see' your character is on the race selection screen, and that is simply a picture of either 'a' alien (I dunno what the visible differences are between male and female Torians....) or some bloke in a tux. Once the game starts I

I conquered a terran world, and a few turns later built a colony ship because I hadn't even realized there was a starport there. Perhaps it might also be wise to include a small graphic on the main map for any of your worlds that have starports. Also, might be wise to include information about build queues on the main map. That way you can see at a glance what your empire

I had the same problem after updating my Beta1 install to Beta2, but fixed it through Star Dock Central like CariElf says. If that activation box comes up go to SDC. Click on GCII. At the buttom of the screen there is an uninstall button, use it. Download again and let SDC reinstall for you. This time SDC will have activated the game automatically. You can then run GCII from SDC.

I might be wrong but I think that makes 3 stardock employees on the case Don't forget that this is the beta uglycow, we're supposed to be finding the problems so these people can fix them for us! I've not got into beta2 properly yet but it looks like I may have a crash problem or two myself, not sure on specifics yet. I did have a problem getting beta2 to get past t

I think in Fragile Allegiance you could faintly hear the alien ambassador talking in 'sounds alien' gibberish. Was a nice touch.

In terms of 'seeing' inhospitable worlds, that's in. Alot of the class 0 planets have a gas giant/ball of ice look about them. Actual game effects, well going off beta 1 it looks like gas giants and other class 0 are uninhabitable.

will the AI be adaptiable at all? if i roll alot of stuff with anti balisitcs will they start using more lasers to counter my moves? That's what its supposed to do, hopefully it will

Each races AI is setup to make the best use of its specific attributes, when you customise a race you change its attributes but the AI will still think it has the original settings. So if you took Yor, reduced their social production ability but increased their military production, the AI would not compensate for the new values. It would overproduce in military and under produce in social.

All hail Fallout! Good point about music, I'd like it to be a little more of a feature than it was in GC1. I found that the volume shifted about quite alot, the Drengin music was very loud and at other times I couldn't hear any music at all. It's not that I disliked GC1's music, I just thought it could have been implemented better.

It seems this is a very well rated game by some (and average by others), but now that 2 is coming out, why should I stay behind the times? (And it looks like in GalCiv, you can play that Lizardman race. Awesome.) My question are these; should I purchase it, and play in the betas, or wait for other beta stages? Also is this game multiplayer? I c

The game will include a custom race feature, but I think it is only intended to be used for the player's race. As I understand things, in GC1 each race had its own coded AI (so that each would act differently), if GCII takes the same approach it might be difficult for an AI to use a custom race properly.

Might be nice if all regions/nebulae/asteroid belts are automatically assigned a name (like planets) which the player can later change if they want to (like planets). If the game starts with no tags I don't think people would remember to use it, maybe they just forget that they can do it or cant be bothered to think up names, but I do think it would be underused. Also, if nameable 'objects' come pre-tagged, there is no need to add a tag button to the inte

There are alot of new threads springing up about the same thing at the moment, and I'm a bit surprised about that. Most threads are asking when it's coming out - todays news update says it will be released in the second week of June, so that means from Monday 6th to Monday 13th by my count. Second most frequently asked question - how do I get acess to the beta? All pre-orders or TGN subscriptions made before Beta2 is released will have access to it

When rhe cat's away, the mice do play. Perhaps beta development slowed down when Brad was out of town. A more "relaxed" environment at Stardock? We don't slack off because Brad isn't here. Do you think that Brad sits here and watches us code to make sure that we're working hard enough? Secondly, this beta is NOT for the purpose of l

Once beta 2 launches in second week of june, the open beta will be closed to new players as I understand it. So get your pre-orders in before then if you want access to the Betas.

I know surprisingly little about the plans for ground combat so far, in Beta 1 the system appears identical to GC1, with a simple spacebar activated advantage randomiser. This might be a placeholder, but it may be that ground combat isn't a priority for GC2. I dunno!
