GaianKnight, the safest answer is to complete any existing game before loading the newest update. Having said that, I have never had a problem doing an upgrade mid-game with any of my games in the past, but some people have. If you update to 2.01, you should be able to continue without any issues. The sure answer to protect your current game is to wait until you finish, if you upgrade during the game you do so at your own risk.

The Jagged Knife are a PITA but I eventually have a good experience from their appearance. I tend to grow slower than the AI in most games, so they don't hit me as hard as some other empires. As mentioned previously, the JK are a doormat to invasion. IIRC the JK get all the current tech of all players when they appear. This can be a nice extra, and maybe even more so in TA. This means if you are a little behind in tech, or if the AI has discovered

I have some questions about that... What do you need to take one on a "test flight"? Can you rent 1, I have one of those pesky reunions coming up. I think pulling up in one of these would do just fine. Does it come with a pilot? I wouldn't want to scratch the paint coming out of spacedock. [e digicons][/e]

Planet, I can't speak to issues 2 through 4 but issue 1 is pretty simple. You try flying though an asteroid field at speeds greater than the speen of light and not hit anything. What did C3PO say the odds of sucessfully navigating an asteroid field, like 3 million and something to 1. Any ships that fly into an asteroid field will immediately only have a movement of 1. You slow down so you dont smack your ships into an asteroid. Once you are clear of the asteroid field for 1 turn, yo

All 3 replys have good advise, a couple of smaller points for you to ponder. 1. Federation is the most advanced/ best economic bonuses. If you were at Democracy you were missing out on some cash. 2. The most advanced industry (Industrial Sector) and science (Discovery Sphere - good/evil or the Neutral Learning Center if Neutral) are also the most expensive to maintain. If you do not have a pop of 10b+ w/ Stock Markets, you are probably running that planet in the red. 3. On high qua

The robot that gives you the news is based on race and alignment, if I recall correctly. As a terran the fembot shows up for the good alignment, I can't speak to other races and alignments.

You can continue playing the old beta if you would like... However to get the new beta, you will have to use "Stardock Central" to update to beta 4. Once the new beta is available, open that program up, it should tell you a new beta is available (if you have that box checked). You can then chose to upgrade to the new beta. Or go to the games section select GC2, open it up and select TA, it should say an update is available. Click on the update button to the right. Stardock

At one point in time, this tech did show the difference between uninhabitable and habitable planets. I believe uninhabitable would show as gray and habitable planets were white. now all planets are white. I would guess this feature of the tech got "messed up" with the introduction of the planet classes for DA, since w/o the proper tech some planets can be uninhabitable for the player, but are habitable later when dofferent colony techs make planets habitable. I know this tech chang

Hawawaa see reply #8 about speed... I'm not playing TA right now but I did play GC1 and used terror stars then. If 5pcs/turn is still too slow, then a strat I would employ, build a fleet or 2 of fast constructors, I dont know how many constructors it takes for a complete terror star. When I spam influence sbs I built them all at once, 12 constructors. Once I get to the right location *poof* instant influence sb. Same principle for the terror star. Fly your contruct

drrider... I'don't think they get a new "capital tile." I thought, once upon a time, I read somewhere 1 per race. I can't recall ever capturing a homeworld for another race and then taking the new "homeworld" and seeing a second capital tile for that race. I know I've done that, but don't remember a new capital tile. Maybe I'm wrong. But I like playing w/ 8 minors, that does give me 8 more capital tiles Oh, spea

so many medals to want, so little time I am curious about 1 thing, everything I have read says Fleet Captain at 25 games, and here I am a Fleet Captain at 24. Am I just that special?

75 Replies 75,854 Views

I would vote for that. It ceratinly would give me reason to a: play all ther races and b: play for all 4 victory conditions. I actually thought 6-9 were already tied to victories like medals 2-5, you know like 250 wins, 500, 750 and 1000 wins. I've never seen anyone with that many posted victories, let alone posted games. At 1 point I surfed through the top 150 players and I dont recall anyone that high, but I could be mistaken. I am all for more useful/attainable medals. S

Don't forget about the UP vote in DA. If you havent heard of it... There is a UP vote giving 1 turn cool off upon declaring war (does not effect minor races since they have no "territory" in the game, at least I did not notice it). If this has been approved... It removes all hostile ships from enemy territory and drops them at the closest neutral ground. None of your ships are in it's territory and none of it's ships are in yours. You can start to attack a ship or planet, but

Ok, now that we seem to be talking about all space based TV shows, my question now is where does Buck Rogers fit in? That was early 80's right? The wardrobe is from Star Trek, with lots of spandex, but their fighters sort of sounded like those from Battlestar. And they had stargates (or whatever they called em)too! I forgot, he is after this time, so he is still floating around frozen in his ship while this is all happening. btw that was a nice Guide reference.

daniel: that is instant travel it takes forever and a day to get the gates installed. but then it is instant travel between gates. that is the problem you have to travel between gates. actually this has been brought up before. I think you, like many other people, are confusing GC "Stargates" with the TV show/movie. I beleive Brad has actually stated elswhere that his gates do not allow insta

PM, maybe you are referring to the speed of your ships? Certainly how fast a ship can travel becomes more important in huge galaxy, especially in DA, because it takes so long to travel from one end to the other.

I would try emailing the nice folks at Stardock at [email protected] They should sort your problems out for you there. Just a shame its the weekend, I believe the sales people are ther only during the week.

Yes, the original backstory of the game states that all the major races, except the humans know where all the planets are. They had advanced tech long enough to know where those planets are located. The AI then can not reach or do not find the planets important enough to colonize. Minor Races: GC2 hard coded, can not colonize planets at all. so they use constructors instead. I miss the GC1 version of minor races. in GC1 they would settle a few planets near them, but would not go cr

WeezyF: Are you currently winning your war? Are your ships better than what you are fighting? Part of my answer depends on how your war is going. Because another area to look at is your planetary production. How many planets do you have? If you have planets building constructors or are taking a long time to build ships, you may be better off empting the military queue on those planets. Or empty the social queues for your planets. Each empty queue will turn a portion of that production int

Hi there, a very enjoyable thread to read. Me, I'm 36 no kids, no wife but work keeps me pretty busy most of the year. When I was younger, spent hours at the arcade. But, I was a game hopper, never really mastered any of them. StarWars was my favorite. At home had an Atari 2600, Riverraid was the bomb, played for hours w/ my Dad, it was a blast! On the computer side, started w/ a Tandy 1000. My favorite games there were Rogue, I forget who made it, and a game called Star

DK, Do what Iztok says. But I would add more clearly, build your own ships. It sounds like from your post that you are using the template ships that become available during the game. The template ships are weak and you are practically giving away the game by doing this. Besides those ships tend to have things on there, like life support, that take up space. The AI builds it's own ships, you need to do the same. So to sum up. Design your own ships from scratch. Research

Mumble, Since nobody mentioned it... Yes, the circle for the constructors shows the correct radius in DA. I believe the perforated circle, on the edge, is always white now, race color still inside. Its very easy to see the influence are for your new starbases in DA.
