Sorry about this. But, I can't figure out where else to post. I just bought the Twilight of the Arnor expansion pack (which includes Dark Avatar ) and am trying to download the Dark Avatar expansion pack into my GC II game from Stardock Central. At a guess, the download speed looks like it's averaging 25 KB/s. At that rate, it'll take me about 3 hours to download this thing. I've tried changing the Stardock Central server, restarting Stardock Central, and rebooting. No

I agree with the OP: the write-up in the game implies a 50% civilization-wide bonus, not just a planetary one. I guess I've been builiding this in the wrong place.

Assuming it IS a problem with the media, the first thing I'd try is copying the whole CD to your hard drive an installing from there. If that does't work, you could take it back to the store where you bought it and exchange it for a new copy. If you don't mind a huge download, you could try registering the game on Stardock Central (https://www.stardock.com/products/sdcentral/) and then downloading the whole thing from there. I don't know what registering that particular media will do for the

I assume you're refering to the male/female poll on the forum. But, other than that (which is a self-selecting poll on a self-selecting forum), how do you know if a person here is male or female? The names are arbitrary and self-selected. Ditto for any pictures. BTW. The Lead Developer for GC2 is female: Cari Begle. Here's a profile of her: Link

atpeace, If you had just asked for GC2 to lower CPU use during idle times (plain and simple) instead of bringing in all the aluminum foil hat, save the whales stuff, you'd have ended up with a better response. I, too, have noticed my CPU fan immediately kick in (and stay there) just upon starting up the game: even while it's just sitting at the main menu. I don't know if it's possible, but while Stardock is optimizing for memory use, it would sure be nice if they could do the same

I've had situations where the AI won't sell me a lower level weapon tech at all until I first try to buy a higher level one, i.e., it won't sell me Laser 1, but if I first add in Laser 4 it will sell it to me and then I can add in all the lower ones.

I'm not sure if this is a bug or not. But, in the last game I played, I managed to "buy out" one of the minor races. I just offered him a lot of trade goods and most of my old ships for his one (home) planet. He said fine. That removed him from the game (and my ships). It just seems to not be a very logical thing to allow. If a race was inclined to do this, wouldn't something like folding into my civilization be better?

I noticed that different email address, too, but assumed they really changed it. I wondered why I never received acknowledgments. You think they'd have noticed a sudden total lack of email dumps. Oh, well. I guess they didn't really need those dumps I sent.

After actually having played a game with the Beta 2, I'd like to confirm my earlier post that abiity to build a Political Capital is still missing.

In the Change Log thread for Beta 1, I mentioned the apparent loss of building a Political Capital (i.e., prior to beta 1, when you researched Democracy, you could build a Political Capital -- after beta 1, you couldn't). There's no mention of it being restored in the Beta 2 Change Log. Assuming it's not an oversight and the Political Capital building is still gone in beta 2 (I haven't yet played it), is this a bug or a feature? My apologies if I'm out of line asking this.

I, too, had this problem when I had a problem with the latest beta. I had installed from my CDs and then done the upgrades via Stardock Central. When I tried to uninstall from Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs, it just told me it couldn't because the uninstall file had been removed. I had to do what Bichur said and uninstall GC by running Stardock Central, going to Games, selecting GC and uninstalling from there.

Small 1, Small 2, ... Small n Medium 1, ... Large 1, ... Huge 1, ... Plus, when I design the ships, all I do is double-click on the items I want to add. I pay absolutely no attention to how the ship looks. Geez, I'm boring.

Response time? Phooey! I'm running GC2 on an old Sony SDM-X82 18.1" LCD. It has a rated response time of 50 ms. The game runs fine (actually, beautifully). As smartwings said, check the refresh rate in XP's Display properties (I assume it's XP) and that both windows and the game are set to use the monitors' native resolution. Also, check that you've got the right monitor profile loaded under Display Properties | Advanced | Monitor | Monitor Type.

Did you remove Political Capital from the game? I just played a beta game and it didn't give me the opportunity to build a Political Capital after getting Democracy. Even when I was a Star Federation, I still had no Political Capital "building" to build.

If that referened thread is the official Beta 2 Bug list, might I suggest it be moved to a more intuitive location. According to the link, that thread currently lives in GalCiv II -> Ideas -> Warfare. Changing that to GalCiv II -> Bug Reports would probably make it easier to find (unless I'm misusing these fora).

For another reason, I just uninstalled GC2 (everything removed) and re-installed 1.20[b].009 from Stardock Central. I started it up and began a new game playing as the Drath (Large Galaxy, Challenging, 5 Races, Random Selection (and that's probably the key)). A few turns into the game, I ran into my third major race: "Generic Race." I brought up the Foreign Relations screen and there was that "Generic Race" with the picuture of "Generic Leader" right under the major races. I don't think tha

I had GC2 open while I was posting the above. When I closed it, it faulted and I got a dump (submitted). I'll stick it in here and maybe someone can see something. Some things that leap out at me: Just after the Initializing Game message (5th line past), it has a pathname with slashes near the end instead of backslashes: "Debug Message: No string tables in C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2\Mods/Data/*.str" Those seem to be the same as earlier vers

I just upgraded to the beta and took a look at Options before starting a new game. Under Game Options on the Game tab, there are six instances of "String not found" in the options themselves. I'll see if I can get a screenshot in here.

I started trying to download it via Stardock last night and was getting the same thing (actually <1KB/s). This morning, I'm up to your same 4KB/s. I don't know if it's the load or something else.

I'd like to note that version 1.11.029 has made things much better. After getting the update, I cleared everything out and started a new game. I had no stability problems at all. Before this, I could usually play only for an hour or two before the game crashed. With the upgrade, I never had a problem. Good job. Thanks.

I avoid the problem with my old ships from previous games by simply deleting all the files from the SHIP folder buried under My Documents. I Do this after I finish every game. In avsari's case, from your dump log, that should be under: C:\Documents and Settings\Charles Duke\Mis documentos\My Games\GalCiv2\ GC2 keeps it's own ships elsewhere. These are just the user developed ones.

I've reported this through SmartException, so I don't know if I'm supposed to do it here, too. But, maybe it'll help others. Anyway, with 1.1 and the game I'm currently playing, the game dies within about 5 minutes of my restoring from my last save file. There doesn't seem to be an rhyme or reason for it. Here's the CRA file (sorry for the size): [SmartException] LastEx=GALCIV2.EXE File=C:\Program Files\Stardock\SmartException\GALCIV2.EXE_1146408113.CRA LastEx2=C:\P

There are probably two ways SD could go to "improve" espionage. The easy way would be to just remove all reference to stealing Technology after hitting the Advanced level: just use espionage as an intelligence gathering activity on enemy status/movement. The other way would involve a lot more work: add in a counter-espionage capability and bring the spy/counter-spy activity into the foreground via some kind of unit, action, or spending trigger.</fo
