One workaround for finding flipped planets if the UI moves you away from them is to hit F6 to bring up the Governors and go to the Colonies tab. First, the newly flipped worlds won't have a shield next to their names (no ships in orbit -- this'll only help if you've got ships on all your old worlds). Also, there won't be any focus set (that I've found, anyway), so looking for those helps. And, there either won't be a Shipyard (so a dash ("-") will show in the ship building column) or Nothing

I don't know if this is the right place to bring this up, but for those with this problem, are you overclocking either your system or your video card? Could it be a heat related problem (for instance, if you run with the case open, does the problem go away?)?

I just noticed that it's not just the Reroute Ship Types Governor that's resetting the destinations of all ships. The Colony Rally Point option does it, too. I had a Colony Ship slowly crawling halfway across the galaxy. I set a Colony Rally Point for my Constructors to head for a starbase. Several turns later, I noticed my Colony Ship had turned back and was heading home.

I'm not sure if this is true for planet flipping, but usually there's a set of icons running up the right side of the main screen noting what events recently occurred. Assuming planet flipping uses this, it ought to be possible to mouse over those icons until you hit something you missed (i.e., the planet) and figure out where you were.

Let's add another rules change, then..the inability to upgrade a ship without an attack rating? outside of your controlled space. It's a different thread, but I disagree with the concept of upgrading ships outside of a shipyard. Repairing them: no problem wherever they are. Upgrading them: not when they're not in a shipyard.

I don't know if I should post possible bugs here or in a separate thread. So, I'll start with here: - The new Governor to Reroute Ship Types is neat. But, it doesn't seem to work correctly. In the last game I played, I tried to send my Constructors (and only my constructors) to various rally points. First, there were classes of ships I had which didn't show up in the list of possible ships to re-route (definitely a variant of a Transport and probably a variant of a Defender). Secon

I'm just a user here. But, it looks like there's driver update available. For the NVidia 7600 series, I'm showing the latest drivers to be 163.71 (dated 28 Sep 07): NVIDIA Driver Downloads Also, I've seen similar screenshots on their ForceWare Drivers forum (though usually for Vista, not XP).

Would those two attacks be the "sneak attacks" I've been reading about? I've never run into this before. Before the UP "go to your neutral corner" thing came about (which hasn't come up yet in this game), I thought there'd at least be a token "we're at war" box and the next turn the attacks could commence. But, never an attack and then the notification. Oh, well. When dealt lemons, make lemonade.

I'm in the midst of a DA 1.7 Beta 2 game (Large, Tough). The build seems rock solid. No crashes at all (congratulations!). The only thing I've noticed is that two races declared war on me without declaring war. The first I found out we were at war was when they attacked one of my planets. It's possible I could have missed it, but I thought I'd bring it up and see if anyone else is seeing it.

1.70a[b].001 is beta 2 (odd naming scheme). Beta 1 was 1.70[b].003. Of course, I could be mistaken and something is very wrong on my end . EDIT: No. I'm sure that's Beta 2. Starting up DA shows "V1.7 Dark Avatar beta 2" on the lower left of the main menu.

I just finished a game based off this (though only a Medium map, Tough, and I went for Neutral orientation). I pushed my factory tech too fast and came close to bankruptcy. But, overall, it seems to work well. What I wonder, though, is whether succeeding with this is more a factor of your custom race or of the strategy itself (as Iztok just said, "play some other superability...")? I'm going to try your custom race with my normal (losing <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/S

when will 1.7 beta 2 be available for download because I don't see it on sdc? Along with checking the "show pre-release" at the bottom of Stardock Central (SDC), you might have to refresh SDC's metadata, too (I did): Tools->Settings->Internet->Refresh XML Data.

I've got a save game that crashed Beta 1 in one turn. Should I try running this under Beta 2 or would the problem be already built into the save game (and thus running it wouldn't mean anything)? I'm not sure if mine is this one, but is this fixed: ASSERT ERROR in file .\Source\EndTurn.cpp at line 2121?

Right now, I'm seeing this under DA 1.7 Beta 1. But, I've been seeing it under earlier versions, too. Sometimes, the last digit of the amount I'm paying someone for something will be missing. Specifically, under Foreign Stats | Speak To | Money/Influence, if I choose the money side of things, it will (usually) come up with the slider positioned at the amount the opposite party will accept as a valid trade. Quite often, when I accept that amount, I'll notice that what gets put down at the bot

Ah. That would be yes, MCC. I fixed the OP. In my case, I thought you meant Manufacturing Centers (the surrounding text didn't make much sense in that context, though). So, I kept pushing research toward reaching those. I was a bit worried since everything I'd read said upgrading factory-type buildings "too early" is a sure road to bankruptcy. I did start taking big financial hits for a while, but I survived

Purge, Where do you put your overall sliders at the start of the game? It looks like you start your homeworld off with your planetary production set to a Social emphasis. Do you leave the global sliders at the default 33/33/33? Or, are they set to something like 50/50 (military/research)?

43 Replies 141,124 Views

Thanks for this. I've got to study it and try to implement some of this because I just go bankrupt if I build anything but economy buildings. Obviously, I'm doing something wrong and your write-up should help.

I was thinking of just placing them around the planet instead of actually in orbit, so that it wouldn't fill up the orbit slots, thus stopping production. But if territorial boundaries are defined as cultural boundaries, that could lead to some interesting recursion problems for your planets in enemy "controlled" areas: orbits are considered yours, but space immediately outside of orbit is considered theirs. So, once out of orbi

There's a UP "law" that, after it's approved, stops sneak attacks. Basically, once you declare war (and I think you have to in order to attack someone), all the involved parties' ships are moved to neutral ground. The one time I paid attention to the numbers on that UP vote, it was 100% in favor. So, if it comes up, it looks like it will pass.

I'll have to give that a try. I'll have to confess that I don't even understand the option. How does it remember my ship designs across sessions unless it saves them to the hard drive? I'll check it out and report back. Thanks. EDIT: I did a search of the game manual and came up with this: "Save Ship Designs to Hard Drive: If this option is on, ship designs are saved to the My Documents\My Games\GC2DarkAvatar folder so that they can be used again in subsequent games. This is a really low priority suggestion. It would be nice if GalCiv gave an option on the start of a new game to delete all old ship models (I know this is anathema to all you ship modders out there. But, my ships are just quick 'n dirty throw aways). I can always do this manually by going into each of the "ship" folders under the game folder. But, usually, I forget. There'd have to be suitable warnings to stop people from doing this without thinking about it. But, for me, it'd be nice.

I received a message back from Cari (where does she get the time?). It's highly likely that the crash was linked to my re-using a ship name when I designed my new ship. It looks like the warning they put up when I do that really does mean what it says. I'm going to start deleting my old ships after each game (or including a date code in the name).
