Might be related to your page file size. I had similar problems. Check out the stickied FAQ: Link To quote: Next most common cause: People who have eliminated their page file or have a very small page file. That's your virtual memory. Check the debug.err and near the top it
I noticed in one game where I was very technologically and militarily dominant, I had gone to war and later made peace with the Drath. Given how overwhelmingly dominant I was, they were willing to give me pretty much anything. I took all their money, but didn't really want their planets (as I was just turtling and enjoying myself), and they were basically encapsulated by the Arcaen Empire. Since I didn't have control over the U.P. I just decided to take a few million of their influence points.<b
Most welcome. I don't know how you play with regards to the periods of time, but I also recommend saving and restarting galciv every 2 hours or so. The game tends to get a lot of junk built up in the memory, and it makes the game slower as well as (seemingly) increasing the frequency of crashes the longer you play. It's also good to get up out of the seat every once in awhile and get the blood flowing in the legs. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Laugh.gif" borde
Why the heck do you need tax rates to be so high at 69%? You need to build up your economy, I recommend going for Star federation, you will be rolling in dough, even with amazingly low tax rates. The reason I go with such high tax rates is twofold: 1) Lower PQ and population colonies pretty much always have 100% approval.
Options -> Interface -> Ship movement Yes, I've had that option disabled for a long time now. It's not that the camera is following the ships, my screen is fixed, and I see the ships pass by. I've also tried centering on another area of the map, outside of their flight paths, but it still takes a similar amount of time.
Hehe, I think you misread. I love Opera, very much so. I've never had any spyware or adware problems since I started using it. I love the mouse gestures, and often recommend the browser to other people. For some reason I had that "Identify as I.E." enabled, I don't know if it is selected by default, or I had done so at some time or another, accidentally or intentionally. And yes I do notice that Opera tends to use a seemingly extraordinary amount of RAM. In fact right now it's using 5
Thanks for responding Heegz. Like I've said before, even with my outdated machine, it's not that every single turn takes forever to go by. In fact, most turns where no ships are moving take only a few seconds to pass in a mature galaxy. In one way I am suggesting an improvement to the way ships move for the player. Yes, I prefer the zoomed out tactical view as opposed to the 3D view, not only for performance reason, but also because I can see much more of what's going on more clearly.
I'm using the latest version of Opera, v.8.54.7730, and am encountering a very strange problem with loading pages I have responded to, and sometimes have previously viewed. Initial views of a page are not having this problem. If I'm in "Identify as Opera" or "Identify as Mozilla" (using the F12 button), the pages work perfectly fine. However, if I am in "Identify as Internet Explorer" something very strange happens when I access a link. The page will not display, and what will happen
With regards to people using high populations to get better tax revenue. I tried this tactic on a recent game (+30% morale, +30% econ). I used the farming bonus tiles and the morale bonus tiles to try get 25B pop planets, and had enough VR centers to (what I thought) would have kept the approval rating high. However this did not work out well. Once the population hit around 20B, I needed 5 VR centers to keep the people happy. My tax rate was at 69%, so I lowered it to raise the approv
Couple of points I'd like to make: 1) Those video drivers aren't so out of date. I have been using the NVidia drivers from the same date for the GeForce 5XXX series and had very few problems. 2) Don't jump on his audio drivers. My audio drivers still register as over a year old and I checked on NVidia's website, download their "latest" audio drivers and they're still the same date from a year ago. 3) Kirk, check out the stickied Faq about your pagefile size. I've had this problem before. The workaround I found was to save and immediately reload. The problem was solved. Also I tried decommissioning the building and then rebuilding it on top, and if recall, it actually crashed the game.
Well I updated my drivers now, and I'm up to the 8421 build. Reloaded my save, switched production to build my constructors, churned out 45 in one turn and hit the end turn button. Took a full 10 minutes to completely automove the constructors to their rally point. Once again the AI took only 10 seconds to complete all their turns in their entirety. One point I forgot to raise earlier is that when I am not moving any ships, the time it takes to end my turn is only around 15-20 seconds
In retrospect I'll post my current debug.err file before I restart Galciv and gets replaced: Debug Message: Version v1.1 last updated on: Mon Apr 24 19:03:49 2006 Debug Message: Could not find a TGN Serial No. Debug Message: *********DXDiag info follows.********* System Info Time: 5/1/2006, 17:05:50 DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904) Machine Name: THE-LACKEY Operating System: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (26
it's a crapshoot but perhaps try giving that particular planet to another civ, declare war, and re-capture it. Perhaps it will reproduce the bug.
I am having a similar problem as well. I'll be a bit more specific. Pre 1.1 I didn't have the choppy video problem, nor do I recall having the jerky gameplay. Post 1.1 I started getting these problems. I am not sure if they happened immediately, or after some period of time however. Videos are basically unplayable. They are very choppy, and the music stutters, so I just skip the videos. The gameplay is odd though. For instance, when my ships move, it's no longer
