Also, the design you mentioned is probably a lot weaker than you think. Spreading out damage is usually bad. On the other hand, I've never seen an AI ship with more than 1 defense type.

I'd be ok with a longer wait as long as those who've preordered (or will pre order soon, like me) get to play around. I was really looking forward to DA, and though I would love to have more features in a larger expansion pack, I'd be sad to wait until after Christmas to play it. But I think I'd live...
Amen to the OP as well. Although as a historical side note, apparently during WW2 the top income tax bracket hit like 97% (this is from my Federal Income Tax casebook too!). I just can't believe that, but then again it was basically total war at that time. And of course they have come way down since then. I personally like 1.3. I just played on a medium galaxy and it was a little too easy to dominate. I think it was because of the relatively few habitable planets. I was tied for most colo
Oh boy oh boy. I can't wait for DA.
And please don't make it too hard to play. After all, the vast majority are playing around Tough and still having a hard time winning. You have to spend a LOT of time playing to be able to win on Gigantic galaxies in the first place, and honestly if you press Ctrl+N enough times, you'll be able to get "the perfect start." Winning against the AI on such huge maps isn't brilliance, it's just a lot of work.
Yes, and what's funny is that I have no idea how these people are doing that. I have a hard time keeping my morale about 50% in the early game, and usually tax highly so that I get more money. Later in the game, WITH at least 2 of the best morale buildings per planet, I'm lucky to get over 80% morale. So you guys keep balancing to keep the crazy uber-players in check and I'll keep adjusting my own strategies. I prefer the game to be hard. Why do I want to play a game I can easily exploit.
Indeed, another good idea from the Jade Falcon.
Yea, I tend to agree. The cutoffs are somewhat arbitrary. A more continuous array function (I know nothing about programming) doesn't seem like it would be too difficult. It also wouldn't screw the AI or players who don't like or want to min/max the exact tax rates.
I would love it. It adds something to the game that can't be easily measured. It's the shock of having to completely rethink your game strategy and if you make enough of them, they can always be new and exciting. I'm totally in favor it.
Ah, that must be my issue as well. Oh well, someday I'll get a better video card.
Intelligence.
Hey, you know what Draginol? It's ok if the AI isn't perfect -- you are doing a fantastic job of updating it and trying to make it the best it can be. You continue to do that and I'll buy every game you guys develop and put out. Guaranteed. The support from this company is simply astonishing and you have no idea how much it affects your customers (or maybe you do!). In fact, just knowing that you there are nice developers is something. I'm not naming names, but I actually didn't buy a rece
I would like to see a difference between civilian population and military forces. I'd also like to see ground troops that must be raised. I think a ground force game would add a lot to the game as a whole. I'm not talking about anything overly complicated, but having to raise actual armies would be more interesting than just using your general population.
/raises hand. Ummm...I'd like to see additional government types. I think it would be cool if the government types were not "1 2 3 4" where 4 is better than 1. Instead, you would have to pick your government based off the current game situation. Of course, honestly, it should be very hard on you to switch government types in the middle of the game. GalCiv2 is a week/turn -- you can rebel and form a new government in a few weeks? I don't think so. Anyway, it's an interesting thou
Yes, more UP stuff would be cool as well. Oh, and carriers...
No. Obscene is a great word. It does not mean only "gross."
For me, I'm totally excited for Dark Avatar, especially since I know it will include the all-important AI updates (which seriously, seriously mean a lot to me, especially since they make a noticeable difference in the game. I started with Stardock with GalCiv (the recent one) and you have a customer-for-life). Having said that, Dark Avatar is definitely more than a mod, but does it rise to the level of a $20 expansion pack? Well, I think others have hinted that traditional expansion
Also, play at a higher difficulty. It will make it more fun when you have to fend off troop transports.
One thing that would help is allowing the AI to design ships more than once a year. That's the current limit as far as I know, and it can make it very hard for the AI to respond. Personally, I would favor allowing the AI to design new ships every 3 months.
I'm not sure if this is a real bug or what, but I'm playing on Tough I believe and the AI is making a strange decision -- it is literally bum-rushing me with transports. I mean TONS, like they must be blowing through their population like a big guy eating movie popcorn. The things just FLOW toward me and while it could be effective, I'm able to blow away most of them because they are unescorted. I think something might be wrong with the ratio of transports to battle craft. I say
Also, don't play Battle of the Gods! There's no way you'll see balanced build orders with that kind of technology to start the game. Since 1.2, my games have been exciting and quite difficult -- I've lost 3 times and I love it. For me, v1.2 completely revitalized my interest in the game. I'm going to preorder Dark Avatar the moment I'm able!
If I was French, I might say, "le sweet."
Yes, it's smarter. I don't know what kind of tweaks they did, but it made a HUGE difference. The AI is no longer the pushover it was, even in v1.1. Great job, Stardock, you guys really outdid yourselves with this one!
Odd that people can have such different experiences. My very first game out of the box, I got squished (of course, I was just learning how to play again after GalCiv1). More recently, I haven't lost as much, but in the game I'm currently playing, I did have a planet successfully invaded by the Yor. Of course, now I'm squishing the humans and will probably proceed to squish the rest of the galaxy too. We'll see. I agree that the "AI needs work." But honestly what is that saying?
I can't even see the poll, let alone vote, but I played GalCiv and getting GC2 was a no brainer.
