Actually I am glad that there is this element of uncertainty. Before DA, all you had to do was keep an eye on your diplomatic relations and you would never be caught unaware. That seemed to eliminate most of the tension in the game. Dan

Thanks Kryo ... you rock! Dano
I love the AI in GalCiv 2. I played Civ 4 a couple of games, but honestly I was too bored to continue (even if it is a top notch game, just not my cup of tea). The one thing I LOVE about GalCiv 2 that I HATED about Civ 4 is that the AI in GalCiv 2 act like people. The same cannot be said about Civ 4. eg. When you are putting the boots to a GC2 AI they will frequently plead for peace. I never had this happen very much in C4. In C4 the AIs were unreasonably demanding
Hi All, For some reason it is like pulling teeth trying to get an avatar on these forums. Everytime I try to upload a picture into the personal icon that is the correct size (both in file size and pixels) without fail I get the Your upload succeeded, but the image(s) have been corrupted. Please check the file and try again. This happens no matter what pic I try and upload. If any kind soul has any suggestions it would be much appreciated. Dano
Hey there, If I give myself a Sensors boost in the Racial abilities, will that increase the sensor range of Ships, Bases even without putting sensor tech on them? Will it increase the sensor range of ships? Also - If I am customizing my opponents and I give them a Sensor Racial ability, will it react to threats in this increased sensor range? Dan
Much appreciated
Can anyone tell me what the super abilities are of the default races? I checked the manual and didn't find it. Thanks Dano
Hey all This might be a little OT, but how do I get one of those Knacky Avatars beside my posts? I uploaded a photo into My Account, and it is there, but its not doing anything (I uploaded it as Personal Photo, should it be Personal Icon???) - I tried to do a search of 'Avatar' and well ... I am pretty sure it caused a global brownout Dano
Hey - it could be worse! We could have had MOO3's representation of land battles - Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Dano
I think that Super Diplomat is by far the most potent abilities, at least in the hands of a player. I am not convinced that the AIs know how to use this ability. Why is it so great? Well, making everyone do whatever you want is pretty powerful. Even if an empire is very powerful, and hates me I can convince them to waste their energy on multiple wars while I build up. As they continue to war, more races come to hate them and soon I have pretty much isolated from the rest of the comm
I think Robert Foley is correct i.e. that the AI personality templates have statistical dispositions (i.e. choices made by a combination of overall strategy that the race enjoys as well as coin-tosses). Should the coin-toss mesh with the particular environment, then the overall behaviour of that AI for that game might be effective, but not characteristic of that race. Hopefully someday we will learn the tendancies of the AI templates so we can build more effective custom opponents.<br/
I just thought of something else - In order to determine the meanings of these AI - templates, I suppose we should separate Aggression, from the personality, since Aggression is set differently than the AI template. This means that the AI template is even MORE ambiguous than our game observations. I.e. how do we talk about the strategies that an AI uses INDEPENDENT of aggression. In this light it seems we know the following - Thalans - Like Influence, will launch a p
I am having a HOOT creating my own custom opponents (as you can probably tell from my various posts). Anyway, I know the devs are really busy here - but I thought that we could work to establish what exactly a "Torian" or "Krynn" personality encompasses. Afterall its difficult to create a custom opponent if you are unsure what the personality template you assign it encompasses. Anyway, I will start. These are based on my observations. Note most of my observations come from Pre-Dark
I love the Superabilities, but there are only 9 of them (I think), and these lead to some repetition when it comes to creating Custom Opponents (eg. This Super Breeder has tech bonuses, this Super Breeder has Build Bonuses etc). The race bonuses are good, but you are limited to 15 points and some of the upper limits are too small IMHO. Then it hit me ... you could make ANY kind of race you wanted by editing the raceconfig.xml files and directly editing the values (of course after mak
Hi there, I don't know if this is a bug - but when I make a custom race I can set the Natural and Economic abilities of that race. This is very cool (even though I think that it should be set on the difficulty page, and not the race abilities page), and allows me to put an AI at a high intelligence, with a financial handicap. However, when I set the levels, say +30 natural abilities and +30 Financial abilities, then I save the custom race, and go back and edit the custom race,
Yep, that did the trick - much appreciated Dano
Hey all! I have some cool alien pics to use for my Custom Opponents in DA - my only question is, where do I put them so that they are selectable??? Dan
I would like to help out with the beta, so I installed Smart Exception should the beta crash. Do I need to run it before running a game, or will it be automatically called should a crash occur? Dan
Couldn't it be explained as the spy isn't DESTROYING food, they are actively POISONING the food/water supply? If it was some sort of sci-fi super poison and it got into the food/water supply its possible that there would be mass death rates, no? Dano PS - Yeah, I still think its a cheesy tactic since it makes planetary defense nearly impossible, but it could be realistic as well.
It sure would be spiffy to have some sort of tech where you could click on uninhabited planets and check out the tiles available. I am sure there are lots of 4 Class planets that I am ignoring that happen to have a +700% manufacturing tile. Dano
Here are my 2BC I think by Coordinate Attacks the OP means "Okay, you attack West and I will attack South". This would be great, but the only game I have heard this existing in is Alpha Centauri. Not sure why it wasn't brought over to the various CIV games. I can imagine the AI programming for this would be pretty fearsome, not to mention all the interface programming (i.e. how do you TELL the AI to attack West, in a way that it understands)? If I am allied to A and A is all
Does anyone know if when you are setting up a game, and select 'Randomize Opponents' whether you can specify whether it is randomizing from the standard races, or randomizing from the standard+custom races? Dan
No ... I meant the Race abilities - when you pick a custom race you can put +10 on Logistics, or Morale etc. You used to be able to put points on Espionage as well, except now I don't know what it does Dano
Does the Espionage Race ability still exist? If so, what does it do in the new Espionage system? Dano
Wow ... that's cold! Good idea! Though now you got me thinking - couldn't you in the original game transport most of the colonists into a transport, have it standing by, gift the world (which now only has a handful of colonists) and then take it back? I don't know how you could block such an exploit without outlawing stealing techs through conquest. Dano
