I am pretty much untouchable with the Super Diplomacy ability, although the AI doesn't seem to have the same skill with it. Dano

Stacking Hulls? This sounds like an intriguing strategy, can you elaborate a little? What is the benefit of this approach? Doesn't the upgrade costs kill you? Dano
Ha! There are LOTS of Money Making races ... the Gnolam for example. Just get a Gnolam pic and whip them up in the Custom Opponents! Yeah - that kind of sucks that the Korx bite it, I kind of liked their style
Personally I like the Custom Opponents ... I have created all the old Master of Orion races and am enjoying fighting the Klackons once again. Now when I play a game I am playing an awesome game system with that sweet Nostalgia of yester year Dano
Anyone else have any comments?
Thanks Kryo! You rock! Dano
Hey there Everyone! I just thought I would start this thread to gather reasonable ideas for future updates to DA. By reasonable I mean things that could actually be done in an update (as opposed to a full blown expansion), so please don't waste your time asking for tactical combat or multi-player. It ain't going to happen in an update. Ideally these would be things that wouldn't take that much code/time to implement, and wouldn't require re-coding the AI to use a particular featur
I totally second the observation that sometimes the AI builds buildings without any Factories - hopefully this can be fixed. Here is a strategy the computer might be able to use as well - God knows I love to smash the AI with it. 1) Find resources that a AI A is using 2) Move a warship sufficient to take out the mining starbase to these resources with a constructor as well 3) Find someone who is at war with A, say, AI B 4) Sell or Gift the warship
Hey All ... I have been creating custom races without any super ability. To compensate I have been giving them 30 ability point pics (by directly adding the picks to the customXML file extra morale, soldiering etc). The game seems to accept it, but when I look at the race, the ability points are in Red showing the net number of negative points. This is fine, but then it got me to wondering - Will the custom race use the extra picks that I made, or will it only accept the first 15 poi

Never mind ... I found it. For some reason I thought it was in the Documents Settings Directory for GalCiv 2 ... its in the normal GalCiv2 directory Dan
Does anyone know where this file went? In the beta I modified the ability bonuses (i.e. made higher levels of diplomacy, Economics etc) picks for a higher ability point cost. Now I can't find it in DA. Has it been moved somewhere else now that the beta is over? Dan
Here is my advice - create a custom race with +2 on speed (for the early land grab) and spend the rest of the points on diplomacy, then pick the populists as a party (for the Diplomacy bonus). Now pick Super Diplomacy as a super ability and voila - instant win! Its still fun, but I haven't been on the ropes once since getting this Super Ability. This is not a complaint, just an observation. Dano
I find spore ships interesting, but certainly not overpowering. You still need space-superiority to use them, and when was the last time you lost a war when you had space-superiority? All they allow you to do is eat an empire quickly, once its defenses have been stripped. To me, the most overpowered ability is Super Diplomacy, at least when I use it. The game is not difficult at all. Before I had Super Diplomacy I could barely win on two levels below 'Intelligent'. Now I am slaught
Kudos Stardock ... looks like you hit another one out of the park! http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/galactic-civilizations-ii-dark-avatar/764302p1.html
Here is a link for all the governor's/heros as well. I use them to make custom races ... http://lordbrazen.blogspot.com/2005_08_01_lordbrazen_archive.html
Another weakness I have seen in the AI using Spore ships is that it tends to rely to heavily on them ... i.e. it grabs a whole bunch of planets with spore ships but doesn't follow them up with actual transports. So the AI winds up with a bunch of planets all with zero population. Dano
If you buy DA now you can download immediately! Sweet ... a game being available BEFORE release I don't have the chat log link. Perhaps someone can post it so you can see for yourself. Dano
Wow ... that was really weird. For some reason I thought Yesterday was Wednesday - I think it was because of the following insane logic 1) There was going to be a surprise announced on the dev chat 2) DA was released to beta testers a week early - this was a surprise 3) Hence it must be the day of the dev chat 4) Hence it must be Wednesday Yes ... I order my life around Stardock ... So? Dano
Yeah ... not to mention that if you like PC gaming then you won't have a choice. You HAVE to get this meaningless OS. Hell, I would prefer giving Microsoft the money for a Premium Vista downgrade just to KEEP my current OS as long as they guaranteed me that they would support it (i.e. put directX 10 in it etc, etc). Dano
For the chat log last night, is there a log somewhere I could read? Thanks Dano
From what I have read, do I hate vista? Absolutely As a PC Gamer will I buy it - Well, I will have to won't I? But I will hold out until the bitter end. A good chunk of Vista is MS's attempt to woo the Media companies to get into bed with MS. Did you know that Vista spends a lot of CPU cycles so that it can spy on you? It literally does an internal poll over and over again to make sure you are not using some sort of dodgy hardware that will allow you to copy that protected
One of the HUGE advantages that a human has over an AI is that we can see their thoughts. What I mean is that we KNOW for a FACT what they currently feel towards us and towards others. Barring any random event, if we are close to someone we can pretty much leave our border's undefended. The same can not be said of an AI vs a player. The AI has NO IDEA of what we really think of them (usually Empire Food- at least to me, though we pretend to be their best buds). Consequently we are u
Here are my thoughts - I have been playing a lot using Custom Opponents. It works pretty well, and I have even been able to apply negative modifiers to certain races (like soldiering etc) by directly editing the custom race files. It works pretty well. I still think that Abilities and Economic advantage should be separate from the race personality (since you set the difficulty AFTER you pick your opponents). I have tried playing around with the Abilities and Economic advantages but
