Spore ship tech steal exploit

Got thinking when looking at Korath...

Under certain circumstances you could give planets to an opponent with spore ships waiting next to them. Then declare War and retake those planets on the same turn thus stealing loads of technology from them.

Buildings stay intact only down side would be loss of population on those planets but you could easily do this on low pop worlds or offload population using transports then move the population back on once you've used the spore ship.

You could gain huge amount of tech using this very cheesy tactic eg easy to get that doomray you always wanted.

Wow ... that's cold! Good idea!

Though now you got me thinking - couldn't you in the original game transport most of the colonists into a transport, have it standing by, gift the world (which now only has a handful of colonists) and then take it back?

I don't know how you could block such an exploit without outlawing stealing techs through conquest.

This seems to me like it should work, but the notion makes me wonder if the AIs can hold a grudge over such a (dastardly) maneuver. Anyone seen evidence that the AIs notice particular tactics as part of how they calculate their diplo status for your empire?

Personally, i do think that conquest tech stealing should be made much, much rarer.

It is an irritating thing which prevents me from enjoying a serious war where the AI conquors my planets, i retake them, etc etc. No, instead i have to be all careful, making sure i never loose any planets lah de dah, yawn, how booring, all because of tech stealing.

Get rid of it!

This exploit isn't something i'd do (not into something that cheesy) must admit i'm not a big fan of tech stealing through invasion and would like to see it in a limited form or taken out all together.

Tech stealing through spies is a much better idea to me and is less open to exploit. eg 4 spies average 1tech per 50 turns. 8 spies average 1 tech per 35 turns 12 spies average 1 tech per 20 turns. Perhaps some system like that.

Personally I don't think you should be able to steal a tech unless you have its pre-requisite tech.

I almost agree with this, but you can give something higher tech and teach them about it, and then they can improve on it.
But yeah, tech stealing from conquest should be much rarer.
