Viithtrump, I ran BoundsChecker to look for memory leaks earlier this week and I didn't find anything significant. It could be just taking awhile to de-allocate all of the memory, particularly if you play on gigantic galaxies with lots of ships. Or, it could be a side effect of the memory bug in 1.3 beta 1. Mascrinthus, Yes, the miniaturization is in 1.3 beta 2a. As for not dumping untested code on beta testers, I try not to do that too often.&n

Then try turning off the mods. You may also need to delete all your ship designs from the My Documents\My Games\GalCiv2\ships folder (or My Documents\My Games\GalCiv2\Metaverse\ships folder if you play the metaverse) if you created any ships that use modded components.
To update or re-install your video drivers: 1) Go to the website for the manufacturer of your video card, usually Intel, NVidia, or ATI and download the latest drivers. 2) Right click on your my computer icon and choose properties 3) Click on the hardware tab 4) Click on the Device Manager 5) Select your video card under Display adapters and right click on it. Choose Uninstall. 6) Reboot 7) Cancel the Found New Hardware wizard when you log back into windows 8) Ins
Thebestaintyou, Is it just that the ships are taking forever to move, or do you have a low framerate and slow response time? Also, does it help if you set some of the performance options like turning off the planet textures?
Try getting the ATI drivers from www.omegadrivers.net
Try updating your sound drivers. If you are still getting random crashes, you may have a problem with a codec on your system. Many media player programs like WinDVD or Media Portal install codecs on your system and they don't always play nice with other programs. You can see what codecs are installed on your system by right clicking on My Computer, then select properties. Click on the hardware tab and then click on the Device Manager button. Then right click on Audi
I don't know why it wouldn't come up, unless you're hitting ESC or Enter too quickly, or maybe if it can't find the dxpack.
I noticed that just last night. I'll see if I can get it to happen again.
Actually, looking at the code now that scans the directory for save games, and I think I know why it's ignoring save games with the same name as raceconfigs or zip files. Fixing it now.
Try turning down your anti-aliasing to 4X. Updating your video drivers might also help, and you should probably update to 1.2.
Please install SmartException from SDC or here: https://www.stardock.com/products/smartexception
I didn't implement it to automatically use different language folders because it would have made the code to read in the data more complicated and take longer. You can still get the same effect by making your mod names English, German, etc, and then zipping them all together in a zip file with the name of your mod. Then the user can extract whichever one they want to their mods folder.
Hmm...it could be the giant star issue. Have you updated to 1.2?
I'll have CodeCritter take a look at this, since he knows the most about our graphics code.
You could always do a search for prefs.ini and pick the one in the GalCiv2 folder.
I'm betting it was related to the memory bug in the first 1.3 beta, which is fixed in 1.3 beta 2.
Gupner, please e-mail your debug.err to [email protected] along with the text of the error that you are receiving.
This is not a bug report. This is too vague for a bug report. Therefore, it does not belong in the bug report section.
Possibly for Dark Avatar, since we are making changes to the raceconfigs to handle customizeable opponents.
I would like a music dvd that just has lots of songs on it. It'd be great for collections or long works like The Phantom of the Opera and Les Miserables. Although a ringtone for the them song for Firefly would be awesome.
The miniaturization fix didn't make it into beta 2, because I didn't have enough time to test it. But the next update will have it.
You could also archive your copy of GalCiv2 on your laptop and transfer the archives to your laptop (burn a disc, use a thumbdrive, etc). Then you would just need to install Stardock central and use it to restore the archives. You'll need to delete the sig.bin file so that it can re-activate on the laptop, though.
The Galactic Privateer is supposed to keep the mini-freighters from being destroyed. It's fixed in the 1.3 beta 1.
See if changing your regional settings to English (US) makes that problem stop happening. We have a known locale bug with the 1.3 beta, which will be fixed in the next update.
Well, he said it was working for 4 weeks. Nikes, you should probably un-install GC2 and uncheck show pre-release versions so that you can re-install 1.2. If you add these lines under Video in your Prefs.ini file (located in My Documents\My games\GalCiv2), it should force your card to run in hardware mode, which will give you better performance: NoPointSprites=1 GfxForceNoPointSprites=1 Also, if you didn't have mods on before when it was working, try dis
