How are you re-entering the registration? I don't seem to have that opportunity.
After erasing the sig.bin and extracting and replacing the files from the downloaded zip, when I started GC2 TA it prompted me to re-enter my registration information, including email address, password, and product registration code. After doing that I was able to reach the TA main menu, and connect to the metaverse. Note that

See my last post (December 1st) in this thread . Many of us have been having problems playing metaverse games since the last update, and my post reports a successful work-around (at least it worked for me).
Here's another fix for you to try: Download http://sd.stardock.com/gc2_metaverse_remove.zip and extract that to the Twilight directory. Then remove \ProgramData\stardock\gc2ul\sig.bin You will need to reactivate but it should work properly after that.
Today I got an email from Stardock support that confirmed that if I didn't have a gc2ul folder, but that I did have a sig.bin in ProgramData\Stardock\Twili
There was an update to TA in Impulse today. I installed it but it didn't fix the problem. No email response yet from Stardock on my request to reopen my ticket.
I do it in other games, but not in GC2. However, I usually play with mega events turned off.
I was traveling last week and Stardock support closed my ticket because I didn't answer their email for more than 24 hours. Their recommendation was the same as what Rosco_P suggested above. However, like several other posters, I don't have a \ProgramData\stardock\gc2ul folder. I do have a sig.bin in \ProgramData\stardock\Twilight, so I've asked Stardock support if that is the file that should be removed.
Yes, same thing.
i expect we are the tip of a very large iceberg here...
I regret ever installing the update. I'm thinking of starting a new metaverse game in DA rather than TA.
and then I crash to desktop like Publius.
No response today from the debug.err I sent.
My ticket number is SFX-827584. I received an email response with the same suggestion that Rosco_P made above. I tried that, and now GC2 TA will allow me to try to log into the metaverse, but then immediately CTDs. I sent the debug.err file back to Stardock support. It seems to indicate (if I'm reading it right) that there are other registry keys that were removed by the 2.04 update in addition to the GalCiv2UL "Serial No".
Received a response from . They asked me to open regedit, display a value and send a screenshot of it back to them.
I have the same problem. I've emailed .
I do that all the time. You'll be requested to log back into the metaverse before you can post the game, but it works fine.
Yes, I've done it a few times. More often than not, though, when I've flipped an evil civilization's last planet and their ships turn pirate, I have to destroy the pirates.
In addition to the others listed, I'd recommend C. J. Cherryh's Faded Sun trilogy. For those of you unfamiliar with her, her real last name is Cherry, and her publisher convinced her to use the pen name Cherryh, since he thought that no one would take her seriously writing under her real name. The Faded Sun trilogy is my favorite work of hers. Mumblefratz also listed Downbelow Station, which is very good, and some of her Chanur novels. For fantasy, her Morga
Great list, Mumblefratz. I was surprised at the absence of Gene Wolfe from your list, although perhaps you've read him but don't own the books. I have to second Sinperium's recommendation above. Wolfe writes beautifully, although if you're looking for space opera I'd go elsewhere. Wolfe's Book of the New Sun, Book of the Long Sun, and Book of the Short Sun take place in the same universe and are related. My second favorite series i
AlBarr, glad I could help. Back when I was a beta tester for GC2 DL, I was using cheat codes all the time to help me find bugs. So I well remembered the control-U combination. But I had to go to the wiki because I'd forgotten how they turned off cheats after the beta.
then they surrendered to another race and not to me
I hate that. In TA you can uncheck the "Allow Surrenders" box on the Galaxy Setup window to make them fight to the bitter end.
Yes, in TA. I haven't played DL in ages and I forget whether it even has extreme planets.
Like you, I've been playing in TA for years, but just recently for grins I started a game in DL. There are no extreme planets.
There have been a number of recommendations for Tropico 4 posted. I see Tropico 3 is on sale on Impulse on Sunday. Can anyone comment on how 3 compares with 4? Thanks.
According to the wiki , if you start the game from a shortcut containing the keyword "cheat", then hitting control-U will remove the fog.
There are a number of experts around who know much more than me, but I'll try to answer one of your questions. Ascension does not produce as high a score as military conquest (or culture flipping all planets, which counts the same as military victory when a culture win is turned off). I seem to remember seeing someone saying that there's a penalty for winning too soon, but I don't know the formula. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will post.
I have no idea, they work fine for me. Do you have any mods installed?
Hold down the control key and then press n.
Had you allocated any points to the "Luck" attribute? I don't know if it's supposed to affect events like that, I'm just wondering.
