Its not the card because its not the heat artifacts that you get when the card is trying to cook itself, there are no problems in other games. I call it artifacting but a better description is probably that game elements are rendered incorrect, there is nothing thats not supposed to be there its just that the things that are supposed to be there are rendered incorrect and sometimes at distorted ratios and in the wrong places. Previous versions were fine, I'm just concerned that 4c had some acc

So with the latest update, 0.96a[b].004, and the latest nvidia drivers, 169.28, (as well as previous nvidia drivers) I have started getting major slowdowns in menus (got it once while changing the tech speed from very fast to normal) which then leads to artifacting (text becomes blocks). I also got this when looking at the civilization manager and clicking the columns to sort them. When this happened the gamma setting was immediately reset so that it was extremely high (I upgraded to the new

I've noticed that the AI employs a number of different strats as far as expansion goes. The Korath and Deringin do a mad rush for planets and do zero development for most of the early game, but slow down at a certain point. I've found with the Altarians and the Thalians it is best to hold expansion until new expansions will be profitable. For example with the Thalians you stay with one planet while with the Altarians you stop at 5 and make sure to have researched xeno ethics (good) then you c

Once knowledge exists it seems to have a way of propagating itself ;). If we want to talk about how races should not go giving away their hard earned research which is granted to the because of how they think about the universe then only the Terrans would be able to go anywhere.

I would slightly revise my earlier statements after having watched the begining of Legends of Galactic Heros ;). Sins seems to have taken much inspiration from LoGH.

I may give this a whirl, but when I played I did not enjoy how certain aspects were handled, also the fact that star systems contain obscenely large numbers of planets on some maps and jump routes are fixed is a turn off for me even though I realize that it makes it an easier and more manageable game (iirc the scale problem was discussed in a dev commentary I read awhile back). I of course was hoping that it might finally be something like a real empire control game that took tons of things int

I never build early military vessles as altarians, I find that if I push money toward expanding my taxbase and planetary infrastructure I can crank out ships that actually do something later in the game (usually the first time I'm attacked by a foolish AI who hasnt done enough espionage and doesnt realize I can crank a fleet 2x as good as his in 2-3 weeks).

I also resorted to the terror star strat because transports just seemed like a bad idea. I was also able to trade for xeno farming which is really quite enough if you can also pick up the galactic bartering center (or whatever the 50% econ iconian upgrade is).

I like how spaced out it is. I've found that if you can get even 2 clusters under your control you have a huge advantage (I managed to get 3 as altarians with a ton of buy now work, I grab a bunch of planets about 2 or 2 galactic grid sqaures before other races :x, talk about nerve racking). The bigger travel distance will give you a sense of security (think US with its two oceans) but if you dont branch out you are in big trouble. I find that it is often a major advantage to start in the mid

I did wonder about this, but I sorta like picking up the 50% planetary economy bonus tech :D. If the AI is stupid enough to trade it then I'm game. The absence of other techs (like certain starbases for the Thalans) does seem to make it work out ok.

Planet grab is a great way to screw up in TA. After getting frustrated for a couple early games I did some quick math and figured out that I should let my primary world develop a bit more before rushing off to grab systems. With the new tech trees and new starting abilities you also have to figure out the correct way to play a race, DA strats will land you in the asteroid field rather quickly.

Since there is now an improvement that boosts planetary economies by 50% I think I can see why they added this. As Thanlians I'm nearing the end of the game but about 50-70 turns ago I started raking in over 1000bc and got up to 4000bc per turn with 100% approval rating on all my planets except Thala. I also always have my production capacity at 100% unless I get low or want to finagle something. I also financed massive deficit spending (max was about -500bc) by trading techs (9civs on the 20

If you want "realistic" then skip the hyperdrives and have only wormholes and near light speed travel (even that is a bit iffy). The Algebraist by Ian Banks is about as close to realistic travel/timescale as you can get, turns in a game following that model would have to be on the order of hundreds of years, not just weeks, variable game speed could work and pausing when needs be like sim city, but it doesnt work so well in a game like galciv2 ;)
