I'm guessing that if this is bought at retail, it will be the same as Gal Civ2, in that you will be able to register it and therefor download it from SDC in the future?

Nice! Is there going to be a demo?
Yes, retail serials will be good for downloads direct if you so desire.

A demo is planned but won't be out until a while after release.

I have been in on the betas....what an awesome game this is  :)

I just bought Arnor the other day. I had the money for one or the other. I don't regret my choice but I regret not having enough money for both. Hehe... =)

Lol, have to say I only noticed it being a hot topic on one of the game review websites recently. I knew you guys were working on a new RTS but forgot the name and had been playing GCII. I didn't realize how far along it was. Well I saw the name and quite frankly thought it seemed a silly name for a RTS, then I looked at the previews and thought ooooh. Thinking this had the 'flavor' of Independence War, Homeworld, and well an RTS that I would love. (yeah I know my game comparisons might seem a little odd) Then I noticed who was doing it...wheeee. :)[

The most significant thing for me was noting the reviewer's confidence rating that a product will appear in 2008 - Sins got 95% - head and shoulders above the others. Looks like the message is getting through re Stardock Games will do what it says on the box, and do it well. I have a feeling this one is being taken as a routine 2008 release by many, and I suspect they are in for a shock. I am convinced this will make a major impact in the RTS world - and the "unexpected" nature of it will generate much comment. Provided the usual final polish is put on it before release, I anticipate it getting many plaudits and good reviews. Regards Zy

I wants I woves I wishes I wonders

I wants sins, I wants twilight.

I've woves the beta of twilight.

I wishes the beta was still available for sins, tis the reason I haven't pre-ordered it.

I wonders which will be the better game though...

How does this game compare to Kohan? That was by far the only RTS I ever enjoyed (and only the First Kohan)

If it compares favorably I'll give it a shot.

The only thing that has me worried about getting Sins is the system requirements. My rig is aging and I don't have the money for much in the way of upgrades. I must say though, that it does look very appealing to me.

I say "only" in a comparative sense.
But if you build your computer from scratch, it can cost as little as £600 to get a very reasonable gaming PC, or £400 for a reasonable midrange PC or £300 if you just want it to play the latest games with a few settings on.

I'd go to a hardware forum if you are going to take this path and have little experiance though.

Oh, the most important thing it to have a good graphics card. Second is a cheep set of 2X1GB of RAM. Third is the processor, Core 2 Intel processors are good, if you don't have much money go for a cheep duel core and overclock it a little. Again with the overclock ask in a hardware forum.

I wanted to buy Sins but I am not. I was hoping that Sins would be a RTS version of Galciv2 so I could finally command the custom ship I was building but there seems to be a real lack of customazation is a real sticky issue. Only three races and no ship editor.

Not to say that I am not impressed with the features they did put in. I am stoked about carriers and the military system. Perhaps an exapansion or something will quell my concerns about the details. It is sad though I mean come on. Its stardock were talking about I am surprised they didn't include some of the more exciting features and customizing abilities of GalCiv2. Most games I grow board with in a few monthes but this one I have played for a year with no end in sight because its never the same game twice.

I may give this a whirl, but when I played I did not enjoy how certain aspects were handled, also the fact that star systems contain obscenely large numbers of planets on some maps and jump routes are fixed is a turn off for me even though I realize that it makes it an easier and more manageable game (iirc the scale problem was discussed in a dev commentary I read awhile back). I of course was hoping that it might finally be something like a real empire control game that took tons of things into account (as in more than GalCiv2) but I realize that a game like that would not be an rts but more of a military/sim empire builder that would only work on a variable time scale (and never ended) but that is outside the scope of the "rts" component.

That said I think that many people are looking for a fun space rts and SoSE seems like it will fill the gap nicely ;).

CH-CHING! Pre-ordered :)

Customization in a multilayer RTS is tricky. How would you do it without causing confusion in the large battles Sins is going to bring?

You can import your own ship models to the game using the Forge Tools (which we're going to release). ;)

This is why I liked Kohan.

You only had a limited number of units really. The faction I played had one unit per each settlement, which allowed for raiding to be a viable strategy. You had usually 7 different types of frontline unit, and extra support units, plus a hero you could attach. Some combinations were quite powerful. There was a good bit of customization of units, but mostly only a few categories were used commonly.

Often in team games we had one person build all-cavalry armies (usually scout/ranger combinations) for raid defenses, since the low number of units meant things were spread out. It also allowed for attacking the support units/heroes more easily (which had lower defenses)

My problem is that my budget range is in the area of $40-$80, which I know is not enough to buy almost anything, muchless a new processor. However, my situation may change in a few months, so I might get Sins sometime like August-ish. Depending greatly.

I like that. Does inch me closer to buying it but what about faction customization in the single player mode. See that is like my favorite part of GalCiv2. You guy did such a great job with the options and you continue to improve on that. I would still like a ship editor like in GalCiv2, now I know that stardock said that they didn't include one because it would slow the game play which I agree with, but how about one out side the normal game play and you can import those designs in to replace game standards, just in look mind you so that even in multi-player games they would work. To be honest I would love that in GalCiv2 it would make custom enemies a lot cooler.

Soon as my tax return comes I'm gonna buy a new PC to be dedicated to gaming I think and this is the top of my list for games to buy. Actually it occupies the first 5 spaces...

My machine isn't anywhere near good enough to run THAT... Maybe I'll have a better rig by July.
Oh well, I'll just have to make do with GCII till then.

Don't forget to actually look at the minimum specs.

I would slightly revise my earlier statements after having watched the begining of Legends of Galactic Heros ;). Sins seems to have taken much inspiration from LoGH.

They're amazingly low for the amount of eye candy in the game, you might be pleasantly surprised. Here they are:

- 128 MB 3D DirectX 9 Video Card (Radeon 9600 / GeForce FX 6600 and above)
- DirectX 9.0c Compatible Sound Card
- DVD-ROM Drive (for retail copies)
- 3 GB Hard Drive Space
- Keyboard and Mouse
- DirectX 9.0c

The recommended system requirements are:

- 2.2 GHz Dual- or Quad-Core Processor
- 1 GB RAM (2 GB for Windows Vista)
- 256 MB DirectX 9 3D Video Card (Radeon X1600 / GeForce 7600 and above)
