This has been a problem for a long time, but with the most recent patch, it is noticeably worse. It used to be waiting a long time (getting a cup of coffee, etc) would give it time to catch up, and the moving the ships around or hitting the 'find' button would jar things loose... Now, the button just disappears. Saving and reloading, for me, has brought the turn button back, but now it is inoperable/just doesnt work. WTF?

Hello. I used to be so obsessed with this game, I really had to give it a long break. Now I am interested in coming back, but only have my TA disk (and I think the activation # in an email), and the manual. I seem to remember that this game boasted I would never again need to buy it. Well, I have lost some of my stuff, including the original GII disk and activation code. Is there a place I can download it again and/or a way to prove I bought it o

I keep seeing races failing to develop...at all. In my last game, both the Yor and Drengin failed to expand at all, both possessing only their homeworld and nearest satellite at midgame in an immense galaxy with plenty of worlds. This is puzzling, because on the past few patches, the Drengin and Yor were pretty strong. The Korx, Altarians, and Thalans still present no challenge at all. I have seen only moderate success from Drath, Krynn, and Arceans

Hmmm...I was more talking about AI, DW, but your talking about Yor viability as a player race. I had difficulty with the Yor in TA starting out and posted about the problems I was having with them. Some other players said I was missing out and swore they could have a healthy economy. Against my best judgement, I tried again, and discovered that the Yor can have a very healthy economy with charging stocks boosting morale and population. You have to research charging stock upgrades earlier tha

Apparently all races have their own code. With every patch, it seems the races rise and fall, which is cool because you never know what a new game will bring. At the onset of TA, the Korath were huge, particularly in regards to research and climbing up their tech tree rapidly, and the Torians were a force to be reckoned with, with huge amounts of low quality ships. With the latest patch, Iconians, Drengin, and Drath(!) are coming on, although the Drath are bugged and produci

What race has the best chance of winning by any means necessary vs. suicidal difficulty on larger map sizes? I am going with the Krynn, with massive amounts of cash and high morale, plus the best chance at an influence victory.

You're pretty sharp, Sole Soul, and I stand corrected. The constructor indeed costs 47bc vs what I originally reported. I checked the stats and graphs, as you requested. Nothing there mentioned for interest rates, but a "purchase now reduction" of, you hit it with your calculations, 97%!!!. How did this happen? Just because I chose neutral? Is it a bug or is it intended? If it is not a bug, it would seem to throw the game into major unbalance. I am, however, enjoying the game,

Correct, but I still cannot possibly believe that costs are intentionally made THIS cheap. I mean...cost of a colony ship out of the gate is 1600 bc...Now they are going for less than 60 BC. That is less than ten percent of the original cost. I am pretty sure this is a bug.

Hello...I have been playing a game with the Korx and it is about mid-game, and all of a sudden I have hordes of cash. A check reveals that costs for everything from ships to planetary improvements has plummetted. Some examples- Cash for new constructor- 40bc Cash for med. size/state of the art ship 106 bc Cash for neutrality learning center (built from scratch)- 167bc Please note, these are full cash costs, not leases! I suppose its possible I built some

Okay, the old post was for DA, and now we are into a new era. I am a big fan of alternate victory conditions in my head, and the Torians are no longer the race with which to pacify everyone via pacifism and benevolence....it is now the Krynn, and they are well situated to do it. A nice, passive Jyhad with a heavy stick for those who wont be nice works very well with the Krynn...it is very possible to keep anyone from going extinct even at higher difficulty levels...unless someone just gets sto

Thanks Infocepter! I bagged my earlier game with the Icons, but will probably try again. After reading your report, I can see that I probably was going with dream conclaves too early, leaving too many survey ships around doing nothing but sentry duty, and not prioritizing my techs in the most efficient manner. Ill probably try the Iconians again, as I am excited by their uniqueness/potential, but their potential to run into the red economically seems to me to be their biggest handicap. <b

Thanks for your feedback, Wyndstar. I have managed to subvert one planet and conquer another and am using your suggestion to just make them flat-out econ worlds. Also since my last post, I have managed to get harmony crystals, an econ treaty, and galactic stock exchanges (!). I'm running about 50% taxes and about 72% approval...you said I should be able to set taxes at about 80% and still keep morale up, so I am a bit off there. I will probably buy all morale buildings with the next (and las

Rhamiel, You are not alone in your frustrations. It is frustrating in the extreme to invest hours and hours into a good game and...just as it is building toward a climax, you get hit with this error. I do run vista, 2 gig of ram, machine built by a friend of mine (its about a year old, and was state of the art when it was built), so...I cant really speak to the technical aspects of this problem. Even under vista, and even with TA, I still run into this problem on larger ga

Helloo! I consider myself a pretty good player and have had some good showings with various TA races vs. the harder difficulty levels....but Iconians have me stumped. I'm in a current game on the most gigantic galaxy size, so plenty of time and room to get my economy straightened out...one would think. I have taken federalists with extra points in economy and maxed out morale, so I can tax the bejesus out of my citizens. Populations are healthy/ near max with a robot farm on each wor

Zero Military, all the way. As the Korx or the Humans, I focus on economy, science, diplomacy, and building up infrastructure. With said priorities, the POTENTIAL to build high quality military rapidly is always there, but I'm not paying maintenance costs on fleets when I dont need them, and I am channelling most of my production into social/planetary projects. When I am not at war, constructors are about the only ships I build. Diplomacy is key to this strategy (you have to sp

With TA on an immense galaxy with few stars, massochistic difficulty, I have been going at it as the Korx and doing pretty well before I start realizing I am in a ghost town. Not much expansion going on with other races...my only clue is a Drengin colony ship beached/stuck on an astroid field. Quarterly report shows me with an economy of 340! And I'm like "whoa. " I have a few tier one econ buildings going up but thats about it; nothing to justify such a rating on the difficulty I a

Hmmm...well, I revisited the Icons and 'tis true, without using alien tech, they are nearly impossible to keep afloat. I did manage to do so, precariously, by setting up trade and all the trade star bases that entails...built harmony crystals, etc. and, you might not like it, but I built one of just about every type of Iconian specialty/high maintenance building and then econ buildings or farms on almost every other square. The result? -- An agonizing debate with myself every turn whethor or

Well, it sounds as if you want to like the Iconians, coz your still hanging in there =) What do you see in them? It sounds as if you are a bit more experienced with them than I...I did well on a medium map with them largely because I got the jump during the colonization phase. You've got me curious enough now to revisit them...as soon as I conquer an immense galaxy with the Drath, which isn't going to be any time soon =) -I suppose you are running federalist with econ bonuses maxed?

Played the Drath on Masochistic and got stomped. Had a heck of a good time, though because I would say of all the races, the Drath have the best chance to turn a losing game around late game. Some high speed spore ships eventually got my homeworlds, but then the Torians surrendered to me and it was game on all over again. It seems that mysticism is their theme with techs like "mysticism" (luck) and dark forces (or some such thing, which is a 30% weapons boost). Another great tech

Played the Iconians. Wow! I think these folks are the most improved from DA where nothing really made them stand out. Hordes of low firepower, mega-hitpoint, regenerating ships make this race very fun for the player. Are they balanced? Well, with careful decision making, I think the above average player will probably find the Iconians very capable and great fun. With the high maintenance cost buildings, the chance exists to fall into the red zone economically. I think the key is
