The new features displayed on the 2.0 preview look neat, but they don,t dynamically change the game. It is a matter of conveince to be able to create ships without playing or turn down the mega events. All of these "changes" will make no difference if the diplomacy is not fixed. I am not saying that i am not excited about the 2.0 release, but i will temper my excitment until i see a fix in diplomacy.

My military by the most part is strong, but that should make other races cautious, not close. The diplomacy just needs to be revamped. There is no logical reason why a race that i refuse to talk or trade with should be close with me. I have even paid for another race to go to war with my "close" friend and it did not change his view of me. I agree that military might should have "some" factor in relations, but that should not be the only factor. I still think that some sort of open border pol

I keep reading about all the complaints about the espionage process, but my biggest problem with "twilight" and all of the other GalCiv 2 editions is diplomacy. Diplomacy just isn't intuitive enough. I make concerted efforts not to trade with certain races(such as the Korath or the Yor) and they become friendly with me. How is this possible. I only communicate with them when demanding tribute(when i am in a military position to do so). How can we be friendly when i am only demanding tribute.

Indeed we did answer this issue. It was me not selecting the right type of ship i wanted to upgrade to. I apologize for the unecessary post

I think i understand what i am doing wrong. When i first started designing my own ships i didn't change the names of the ship unless i made a break through in a more advanced technology for example: I would keep Alpha Fighter Version I as long as i had less say stinger technology on it. When i completed my research on harpoon technology, i would change the name to Alpha Fighter Version II. So lets say i had a fleet of ten Alpha Fighter Version I. Once i completed my

Yes........this is what i am doing. And when i pay and wait a couple of weeks for the upgrade to complete.........it turns into a Battle Axe with generic weapons and no defense. Example: I design an ALPHA FIGHTER(like in the ROBOTECH series) and put lasers and deflectors own it. Later when i have researched plasma and shields, i try to upgrade the ALPHA FIGHTER with those weapons and defenses. When i try to upgrade all of my existing ALPHA FIGHTERS in my fleet

I was just wondering if the ship upgrade bug has been fixed with the newer patches for Dread Lords and Dark Avatar. When i created my own ships and decided upgrade to more advanced defense and weaponry, the ship would turn into a feeble battle axe or defender with none of the advanced systems i wanted. I would go to the upgrade all ships screen and pay for the upgrade and watch my mighty fleet turn into a less than adequate space navy:(

We are both right in many ways. I guess it just depends on how many planets you control and there quality. Right now, i am playing a game with only two quality planets. So i have to be more agressive to procure quality planets by force of arms. When i do have a good number of quality planets, i am more passive, utilizing technology and influence as my weapon :)

I have tried upgrading my ships, but when i pay for the upgrade it turns the ships into a battle axe or some sort of generic ship. I went to war with the Torians once and tried upgrading on the go. I had ships with Plasma/Barriers/Point defense and wanted to upgrade the plasma to phasors. When i purchased the upgrade, it turned all of my ships to battle axes with lasers ONLY. No defense at all. To make a long story short i lost the war and was conquered because of this bug. Has that been fixed w

This is also a problem in dark avatar and dread lords aswell. When i have excess ships that are obsolute i try selling them to minor races. The minor races never use them. The ships just sit there until they are attacked. This is a very annoying bug that should addressed in all versions of the game. THe same result happens when you sell them to the stock races, also.

The first thing you want to do is build a rudimentary fighter with the tiny platform. If you have no military, the other races will perceive you as a weakling and start bullying you. Make sure to be friendly only to those who are similar in your ethical alignment. There is nothing worse than having your main trading partner declare war on you because you are not good enough or bad enough or neutral enough. When i do create research and trading partners, i always make sure that the race is weaker

"When war seems to be on the horizon, or I'm ready to fight, that's when I start militarizing and preparing a stronger, more powerful fleet." I think this is a tactical mistake. I seem to have more success when i already have a strong military instead of waiting for someone to become angry enough for war. There are ways around going into the red, but there is no way around an overpowering advesary. I usually play a militaristic style which works well. Neglect your military for too long

I never stop building military vessels. The only time i will slow down is when i am in the red. Then i just sell some of my obsolete ships to my Allies or the minor races. Keeping a big military has its pros and cons. GOOD- most neutral and evil races will pretty much leave you alone or even give you tribute because of your military might. BAD-Good races will see you as a threat "damn KRYNN:)" and gather their allies to declare your upon you because of your imperalistic nature:

Why are you complaining when you had your advesaries set at SUB-NORMAL. Did you actually expect them to take advantage of anything at that level??? Play all of your games on Normal or Challenging and you will see how resourceful the other races can be :)

If you download the latest patch "1.80g" you will find that the AI is very stingy. They rarely trade away tech's that are valuable and are diffcult to negotiate with if you have limited diplomatic skills.
