I've wondered about the etiquette of inviting people from other empires to join a different one. I've invited some to join the Kzinti, but restricted it to people in empires that seem inactive, or empires that have a very small number of people, and have accumulated only a small number of points. I think I have about 4 former emperors and maybe around a dozen former senators from other empires in the Kzinti now. I also didnt invite any of them until my empire had reached the top ten. The def

Very interesting stories drrider, especially the second one! Boots sounds like a intriguing cat. Scratch had recently taken to staying out for days at a time, with the longest being five days before he disapeared the last time. It's been 33 days now this time. When outside, he did act sort of feral. I could follow him around and hang out with him outside, but if I tried to pick him up he would growl at me...something which he never did otherwise. Inside he was cuddly and a

I'm not sure what we're voting for, but count me in as an affirmative vote on the way the decision went during the balloting process as the majority stated their opinion. Hehe...for some reason this struck me as something I might have heard in a "brit-com" like Red Dwarf. An image of Rimmer saying those exact words popped into my head. I'd be interested i

There is a new 3-D version of Scorched Earth that is free and has multiplayer internet capability. I cant remember the site, and dont have the info here at work, but I'm sure you can find it if you search around. It has all the original elements of the game...it's a lot of fun. <IMG id=ImageResize_Image_1 alt="Sentient species taste better..." src="http://www.mypicshare.com/thumbs/20070803/vqrpalpt.jpg" onload=ImageRes

Actually my original question was about the terrifying visage that normally appears as KP's icon, the one that looks like it is saying "Meeyowuu". It was missing at the head of this thread. That is a picture of my cat Scratch (named so because we called him the devil-kitten), taken about 6 months ago when he was very small. He has been missing for over a month now. My gf and I are extremely upset about it...but at this point I dont have much hope tha

Really? I thought Ringworld was the first appearance. Eeeeenteresting. I stand corrected. The Kzinti also inhabit the Star Trek universe, and made an appearance in the animated series (though I havent seen it). Roddenberry & Niven were long-time friends. We are quite well-fed, but eager for more battle. We now look hungrily to the bloated but moribund empire of the Orcas...h'rrrrr seafood! They are ripe for conquest. Next goal for the Kzinti is #1 on the AltMeta. I noticed that you and I have been dueling for #1 in one of the categories on the ALtMeta. I couldnt let you have ALL three of the military #1 spots. <A href="http://www.mypi

Yeah I did notice the hijacking, hehe...my apologies too. Before I decided to take Kzinti Empire as far is it can go, the Gerontocracy was one I thought about joining, because it seems like a fun group of people. Now with the Kzinti being ranked #4, and #2 on the AltMeta, I'm aiming to climb higher. The next goal is the #1 slot on the Altmeta! Less than 400k to go, so I hope to be there soon. <IMG id=ImageRes

"Old age and..." - if you don't know the rest, you're too young to have an opinion. Technically I would qualify for the Gerontocracy, seeing as how I'll be turning 36 in a couple months...unsettling thought to be heading towards 40, when I still have trouble thinking I'm 30-something... <I

The Kzinti are the top predators in the galaxy, but we welcome any worthy adversaries who wish to do battle. May the victors feast upon the flesh of the fallen! Those Gerontocrats are too stringy and dry for our taste. They'll all expire from old age soon anyway... <IMG id=ImageResize_Image_1 alt="Sentient species taste better..

There are some events I have a problem with, because the AI votes the same way very single time. As gallagher mentioned, they might as well be hard coded. Some of the ones I can think of off-hand are: Starbase Module Limit - always NO Tax on Foreign Planets/Tax on Foreign bases - always NO wait one week after declaring war - always YES The only times the outcome of these votes is different is when I own over 50% of the UP and vote in the opposite way. There are also

I like to name my ships to keep with the flavor of one of the custom civs I usually play. For example, when playing Harkonnen I might name a ship Rabban or Feyd (also depending on hull size), and add a roman numeral afterwards for upgrades. I entertain myself more when I stick with a theme. <IMG id=ImageResize_Image_1 alt="Sentie

I edited the other civs to make the colors more distinctive. The Korx are now hot pink, and the Korath sort of a dull green, and some other changes I cant think of at the moment. It's definitely do-able to find better colors to differentiate the civs than the existing defaults. <IMG id=ImageResize_Image_1 alt="Sentient species taste better..." src="http://www.mypicshare.com/thumbs/20070803/vqrpalpt.jpg" onload=ImageRes

What if the game calculated two new values like or similar to this: [Threat Score] = ([Military]+[Economy]+[Production]+[Treasury)/4 [Allied Score] = [Target Race's Threat Score]+[Threat Score of Direct Allies] I think it should be weighted something like this: {[(military x 3) + (production x 2) + (economy) + (treasury)]/7} + [similarly calculated strength of allies] Military strength would still be the most important sing

Master of Orion had a bomb tech tree like you are describing. Nuclear Bombs were actually the lowest level of bomb tech, which makes sense considering you are talking about civilizations that have interstellar travel capability. There were also planetary shields and "death spores" of various sorts which were biological weapons that only killed population, not infrastructure. <IMG id=ImageResize_Image_2 alt="Sentient sp

drrider , the Kzinti are from Larry Niven's excellent Ringworld , and its many not-so-excellent sequels. Yes, also many other books as well based in the "Known Space" universe of Larry Niven. I read a lot of the "Man-Kzin Wars" series of books, which are all collections of stories about the Kzin by many different sci-fi authors. Just do a search in google images and you can easily find all the pics. Also go to Larry Nivens page

Reply to Senators in Metaverse

You are right, it doesn't really seem to do a whole lot, but I do think that senators are supposed to be able to invite other people. I dont know how it works though, since I'm running my own empire, and as emperor can already invite people. I think the main reason for senators is to have some way in which to reward or acknowledge players who contribute to your empire, and to have them as "featured" in the empire listing, but otherwise it's just a title. <A href="http://www.mypicshare
