It's easy. You just need years of Galciv2 experience and to practice the techniques 200-300 times on smaller galaxy sizes, as far as I can tell :). Sorry for the sarcastic answer, but the truth is that these players were very good to start with, then put an enormous amount of work into working outthe details of how to play such games with mathematical precision. There is nothing untoward about it. They are just that good.
A base score of 6, or 3 games, rather than the usual 8, or 4 games this round. The post is maybe 2/3 the way down page 4 of this thread. There's been a bit of flux recently in the league, so it makes sense to me personally. Silverbeacher, please correct me if "proposal" is too strong a term for the intent of your post. I don't want to mis-represent anyone :).
Neilo, that is a fantastic game. Congratulations! :). As for Livonya, personally I think he's some manner of AI of alien design, so no sense comparing ourselves to him :). 1.4 million is just crazy...

Congratulations on joining the Metaverse! As to how to improve your scores: There are some important techniques, but there aren't any real short cuts. It's a matter of gaining experience and improving your level of play. Joining an empire is also a very good idea, since their private forums can have a lot of valuable information and the more experienced players are typically very generous in offering help. I would recommend the Tyranny of Evil personally. In any case, welcome again

I'm in August of game year 2. I've been at +7 and friendly for 6 months or so with one race and 3 with the other. Is it just a matter of waiting long enough then?
Alright, in the current MVL round, I'm having a terrible time getting an alliance -any alliance. I've got 7+ and 0- in the relations report with the Torians, but it won't budge from friendly to close. Do I just have to wait? What's up? I've got a 10-1 military rating, a bunch of trade, same alignment, I'm not sure what else to do. Frustrating. Ah well :). Any suggestions/explanations would be appreciated. Hello all! I've just transferred my primary character over to the Tyranny. I've no intention of being evil, but this is where a huge number of players I respect and like call home, so that's the empire I'd like to be part of as well. :)
I've heard from VegJed and Ferrel so far this round for team B. By the way, prior to this round, I've never won an alliance victory, and I'm finding it terribly difficult. I may have to drop the difficulty level to obscene if I can't get this to work, but I'll keep trying for a bit :). As to the position of vice-commissioner: Though I do not think I am the most capable MVL member for the position, I would like to help if help is needed. Much of the core of the Diplomats has moved to the Tyranny. Notably, Mumblefratz, DethAdder and Magnumaniac. I'm not aware of any currently active historical core Diplomats at the present time. I think an empire is fundamentally composed of the players who give it life more than the name. Switching from the Diplomats to the Tyranny at this point could be viewed as loyal rather than disloyal. I'd switch to the Tyranny myself were it not for a moral aversion to joining a self-avowed evil grou

Mumblefratz, thank you for all you have done for the MVL. It is truly appreciated. I know I wouldn't have the patience to play even one of those 7 year 125,000 point games you've churned out with clocklike regularity (even if I had the skill). If the MVL isn't fun any longer than no one would want you to keep grinding at it, in game and and organization, against your will. Though your considerable contributions will be missed, (as I commented earlier) if anyone deserves a break, it is you.
I think someone stepping forward to organize things is quite helpful at the moment. I've got a guess there are those other than myself who have hesistated to do so for fear of over-reaching and offending people, but we do need to get organized. Thanks for pointing us back on the right track DA :).

We'd love to have you stay as a player even if you no longer serve as team captain or rules keeper, but either way, thank you for all your contributions to the MVL and all the work you've put into it. I don't think anyone believes you acted with anything but the MVL's interests as your motive. If you do not change your mind, we'll be waiting for your return and please enjoy the (relative) rest. :)
Sorry, I must have mis-typed Neilo (my bad). I am leaving Thursday 7/17 and will return Sunday 7/27 in the late evening. I'll be here the next few days. So I'm glad to accept the nomination, but I will be gone during that time period (there is a small chance I will have internet access, but I probably will not). Alright, Lord_arkham and freeman have also been nominated, so if precedent is our guide, if they accept the nominations they are on the ballot for the election starting 7/13 as well. Ok, current status check: We have an election scheduled to run 7/13-7/20. DethAdder and KzintiPatriarch have been nominated and have accepted the nominations, and are thus canidates (unless either chooses to withdraw from the election, which hopefully will not happen). Neilo has been nominated, and has not as of now accepted or declined the nomination. If we are following the precedent set by the last election, any canidate who is nominated and accepts the nomination is ballot-eligible. So
I hope I'm not mis-reading this, but DA, is your concern that the current rules do not seem to exclude score manipulation by deliberate non-submittal, and that in the context of that ambiguity situations like that which occurred this round create the appearance of unfairness? I don't think you were accusing team D of conspiring to have GeneralEtrius and Homstar to deliberately not submit this round to get the submission bonus, rather saying it simply looked bad (even though this wasn't cheating
I think that the rules are imperfect because perfect rules are not possible. There is possibly even more room for bonus point manipulation by having a team's two strongest players play two games each with the same focus (score or speed). Submit the best game by each player, have all remaining team-mates not play a qualifying game that round and not announce, then if I understand the rules correctly the two remaining games by the 2 strongest players would be selected to replace them (as long as
I think getting a suicidal game submitted at all (even a few hours late) with this round's settings and a heavy workload is border-line miraculous and it should definitely be counted.
