IDK, this guy seems to be having fun with them.
He inspired me to use them in my most recent game...I got the Dread Lords event, and left them for several years because I had no idea where they were...turns out they were right between me and Earth (I was a custom Evil race), so I spent sveral years researching the techs and managed to blow them up in what I suspect was mere turns before they begun making their move

About the negative income. I found that it was the sheer maintainance of the Arnorian ships that was causing my eco to tank. I sold them off to the Iconians and Krynn for as much money as I could. Balanced me out a bit. I also take creativity and pray it procs me through the Terror Star techs ASAP, pray that the Krynn and Iconians use the ships I sold to them to good effect and hold the Dread Lords off long enoough for my terror star to complete building, bought one of their planets outside t
This shows that not all brilliant games are part of the big PC Game Industry Network. It companies such as Stardock that I admire and will (hopefully) work for in the future once I'm through University. Companies whose employees spend more time communicating with their customers and fans than the big cheeses who get suggestion after suggestion and either ignore them or make a half-hearted attempt at implementing them. Just keep up the good work. You may not be as big as other companies,
something should be done about the moons, think about jupiter. sevral dozen moons and one of them is EXACTLY like earth, besides the life part.
And the lack of water or atmosphere (although the upper atmosphere of Jupiter could possibly support some form of life). I didn't know moons and rings gave bonuses already...I thought they were eye candy myself...I'll have to test that.
Even for one of the finest GalCiv players out there, this is an impressive feat and I can only imagine being good enough to do something similar some day. From now on, you are my inspiration to get better at the game.
Usually, Terror Stars come into force in the late-game, where trade is practically irrelevant due to all the wars that just cripple trade (Unless you've managed to stay out of them). Just leave the U.P if that is the case and blow them to Kingdom Come!
Yes, there is a renaming function. In the bar where the planet name is when you click on the planet, there is an icon on the right that looks like a bit of paper. Click it and you can name your planets as you wish. You can even rename AI planets like this too, for that extra personal feel in the galaxy :)
RODCES (Ridiculously Overpowered Device Capable of Exploding Stars) Gun (Pronounced Rod-Kes Gun). Obliteration Pulsar Ray. Stellar Impact Gun. Quasi-Molecular Deconstructor. REALLY Big Laser.
This is my first expansion for Gal Civ 2 -- I completely skipped the last one.
Dark Avatar is required to play this one isn't it? So how have you managed to play this one without having the last one?
Start with DA, because if you go straight to TA even in its unfinished state you won't want to go back. I'm actually sorry I jumped on the TA beta so soon as I hardly played DA and it seems like I had to waste my money on it in order to get TA. But having played TA, DA just feels unbearably bland.
I feel the same way as I did the same thing. I always used to be able to beat the AI easily on Normal in both DL and what I played of DA, but TA puts up a real fight even on No
Well bonus tiles can be a hinderence. Yes, they supply a nice bonus to you, but the upkeep costs are also amplified...that has killed me many times before, so maybe it isn't economically viable for the AI to build the select building on that tile yet, and is using something it can sustain in the meantime.
Well the Human Dread Lord idea does make sense, and would possibly help explain the existance of the Altarians. The Thalans may just come from a timeline where the actions of the Terrans at this point in time cause a catastrophic series of events that ultimately destroys the galaxy or even the universe that the Thalan existed in. They see the Terrans as the cause of all imbalance in the galaxy and wish to annihalate them from the galaxy before the catastrophe happens again. Whether it's the Terr
Put one on a small map with rare planets and rare habitable planets...then watch as the biggest, most powerful civ with the most unstoppable military in the quadrant gets completely annihalated in 1 turn. Now tell me whether that isn't good? Whether it's the only thing it can do or not, Terror Stars are like your own Mega Event. If other civs don't like you for making Terror Stars, just blow up their star system to shut them up :) (just make sure you make a nice decoy first).
The Korx are like the Mafia. They'll quite happily do business with if they are getting something good back in return. If you refuse, they'll get nasty, and they'll resort to even more extreme methods as time goes on. Tell me how that is anywhere near neutral. They are evil, but in a disguise. The Yor, on the other hand, seem to be just misguided with a farfetched quest to rid the galaxy of organic life. This is likely due to prejudice and can be changed, making the Yor not entirely evi
I still get this as well, primarily on Constructors, and I think Transports too as they weren't appearing on my fleets even though the fleet was in the triangular formation signifying 3 ships.
I personally loved the comical lines when some techs were researched. It stops the game from becoming so serious all the time. I don't expect most people bother reading the stuff anyway and just click Done as soon as the window comes up. I personally think that the best games are those that don't always take itself seriously, and it elements such as these that really separate a game from a hardcore simulation, or the next step where gamers become so immersed that it practically absorbs them into
In my current game, whenever I go to destroy Kora with my Terror Star my game crashes...Absolutely awesome animation though, but as soon as it finishes my game crashes. EDIT: Happens on any star system...
Just even less slowdown I'd presume, as the PC would be able to handle 4 processes at once rather than the Dual Cores 2 processes or the single cores 1 process. Also means you can have more background programs running without everything eating the CPU.
As a largely Aquatic People, shouldn't they start with Aquatic World Colonization? And them maybe have some unique terraforming techs where they can make better use of the aquatic worlds than other races?
I agree on scaling tourism with the map size. On smaller maps where influence is easier to come by it's insane to have so much money on hand and, therefore, requires no strategy on how to handle funds, which defeats half the point of the game. It currently stays that way up to I presume Large, where it starts to even out a bit, up to Gigantic and Immense where you are still getting about 5bc a turn from tourism, which is just as stupid as it was before, except we start off with less funds making
You haven't seen the TRUE power of Tourism...(or maybe you have)... http://img164.imageshack.us/img164/7312/100xtourismaq5.jpg This is with what I presume was a mega event (as I never saw it in DL) where tourism was increased by 10 fold and tax tolerance reduced. It's like a permanent economic boom. Maybe take out the mega event rather than nerfing tourism?
It's a way to stop them from getting destroyed I guess...
The only type of game that should be strictly solo play are as follows: Solitaire Those mystery puzzle games like Myst THATS IT? thats funny. I would never really play a multiplayer game. Mostly because my time to play is limited and my oponent would probably get a message every day that its not his/her turn yet. lol. Heck I can't even get that far! I spend ages trying to put my weekly income in the black but nothing works, and if I wait too long then the enemies are too well developed to even touch, and they don't want to make peace. And this is on Cakewalk!? How the heck do I win? Nothing is working...
I wish that espionage were useful against minors. Some of the "minors" due to mega-events end up being more powerful than most "major" civs. Using agents against a minor civ with three times the player's population and production isn't "wasting" them.
I agree, I think Minors can be just as powerful as the Majors if given the chance. I also reckon that after a certain point they should also try to make a break for the stars themselves rather than just sitting there waitin
