Colonizable moons?

Purely speculative idea, maybe for expansion 2 or GalCiv3

This is something that the new eye candy got me thinking about. Colonizing Satellites. It would seem to me that after a planet is fully developed, a reasonably smart race would look at all that airless, low gravity real estate in orbit and think, "Why not?" Nothing spectacular, maybe not even developable real estate like a planet, but a single development like "Satellite Research Colony" giving additional research. "Satellite Manufacturing Facility" for Social/Military production, or "Satellite Colony" for more population (and the associated income increase as well).

Maybe have each type of colony unlockable under a different tree.

Moons and rings are already used for research and production bonuses. Check the planet info.

That's true, but I suppose a planet with moons could get a +1/+2 PQ bonus for the extra living space.

I spoke of this somewhere else... but sometimes it doesn't seem to work this way. Has anyone else had any issues?

Damn, i stand totally corrected, I thought they were just eye candy...

I want moons to clonizable.Make the moons have like 3 or 4 tiles to build on. It would be cool to have moon quality, sorta like planet quality.

That I'm completely against. Say you get a pq 28 with manu capital + a precursor mine. It's already an amazingly powerful planet. Now chuck in a moon bonus. More powerful still. Now chuck in 3 or 4 free tiles. Sorry, but IMHO that's a bit too much as well as the bonus you already get.

Maybe make it so the pop cap acts as if the class is +3 what it is, but no building on it.

Well, then it would be neat to at least choose the moon bonuses. Such as:

..Have research bonuses (you can only choose one bonus)
..Production bonuses
..Food bonuses
..Influence bonuses
..Or morale bonuses
..And/or upgrade the moons in the future

(PS: I know production and research alrady comes in the game.)

Influence makes no sense. Food could, but not really. Morale? What, you ship the unpopular people there?

Production and Research are the only ones that come to mind when thinking of what a moon could really do. Certainly no influence.

Ahhh... man a Moonbase Alpha would be cool for the Terran players... until some horrible worksite accident knocks it flying into Drengin space.

I would like that, i was hoping that you could have dead planets with a PQ4 moon and have a monumental mantince costs for sustining the colony but could have bonuses for the planet and the moon. (If the planet isn't dead)

No, you could have solar parks there, has anyone seen the second episode of futurama?

Retirement communities would be popular. Living out your 70s and onward in a fraction of the homeworld's gravity would be a godsend for some people who's bodies aren't holding up well. There's your population, influence (hey, these old farts got connections, approval rating bonuses (improved quality of life, and the kids back on the homeworld don't have to care for'em), and economy (new meaning to old money), EVERYONE'S happier.

Could even justify a production bonus, since "heavy" labor takes only a fraction of the effort, allowing them to keep up better.

However, that theoretical aside. I have not seen where the 10% production bonus is listed for Earth or Altaria. Anyone wanna spell it out for me?

Oh! I never thought of a retirement community on a moon...Nasa's probably reading this and they are probably blueprinting it now....

something should be done about the moons, think about jupiter. sevral dozen moons and one of them is EXACTLY like earth, besides the life part.

End of quote

And the lack of water or atmosphere (although the upper atmosphere of Jupiter could possibly support some form of life).

I didn't know moons and rings gave bonuses already...I thought they were eye candy myself...I'll have to test that.

Maybe there can be a Moon Advertising improvement that becomes available with Lasers III. It lets you turn a moon into a giant display screen. Improves trade, or lets you display propaganda messages.

Yeah, I'm kidding.
