I've been trying to make alliances, and it used to work, but for a couple of games nobody has been willing to ally with me Just played a game with no issue. I allied with 3 out of 4 opponents. Killed the forth, and had victory. But I must say that my military was so superior to all other, they were all hoping I would ally with them. I don't usually ally with anyone until I am ready finish the game. Otherwise the AI just tries to mix you up in all the li

I've had a similar experience in a game where I had no problem flipping thallan planets but dreggin planets just would not flip unless I had an influence base on both side of the planet, both fully loaded. It took 50 turns or more to flip most of them, but two of them just did not flip at all. Those planets were right in ther middle of my influence zone as well. I spyed on all planets, but did not see an MCC.

Yes and thats a shame, Starbases should have a ZONE OF CONTROL and be able to fire at passing enemy ships 1 hex out, I also think they should have upgrades that can increase the firing range, esp. for missles, AI bases with long-range missles would force you to build up missle defense before incursions, though each armed missle should have an expensive cost and a (reload downtime). I would only let the military starbases have the longer-range stuff. In fact only the mi

Would be nice to give constructors the ability to move starbases for you. Sometimes, you put an economy starbase in the wrong place, or your trade routes change part way into the game, or an influence starbase is no longer needed in it's original location. After you have invested so much into a starbase, you presently have to destroy it and rebuild it in an other location.

The information being out of date is a bad and a good thing.... bad because, well, it's wrong, good because it is a sign that Stardock are quick to fix problems There is a line of silver in every cloud! But the job is not done until the paperwork is finished.

In my opinion, starbases are only eye candy. They have no strategic importance in the game since you can simply ignore them, invade the planet first then they just dissapear. So why waist time building them? It,s cheaper and easier to just increase the shiels on your ships.

Sometimes you have to cut your losses and revert back. A new system isnt always better, I would be staisfied with the option of just using the old system. I agree fully. This new spy system was a bad idea. In my last game I had to pay out 1255 bc per turn and wait 7 turns to get one single spy. I had six spies already on my planets, so it would have taken 35 turns just to get rid of them. I was the leading race until then, but I shut the game off. It's j

it should be documented in the dev journals where all changes are documented, but i have no idea how far back you'd have to go. 1.2, maybe? if you're reading the manual, you're going off way out-dated info. i think the manual was out of date when the game shipped. Its bad that information on this game is hard to find, but what's worst is that the information that is available is all out of date. Thanks for the info.

that hasn't been the case since early versions of dread lords. now both fleets fire at the same time, unless you're playing as the Arceans or a custom race with the Super Warrior ability. Where is this documented? I read that if you attack a ship in orbit, you get first strike.

PPS - The most efficient economies for high difficulty games are either factories and markets/banks, or labs and markets/banks, not factories and labs. Please explain what you mean? Some poser plants only give you 10%. You would need 10 existing plants to equal one new plant.

But more to the point, you don't really provide any tangible justification for your argument other than to insist that your credentials on business are somehow greater than mine and that I should simply budget updates based on your recommendations. I don't find that a compelling argument. Frogboy, Your attempt to discredit me is ammusing! Is that how you treat all your customers? The only justification you should need is your own earli

What race were you playing? Unless you have the super warrior ability both sides go simultaneously in combat. I was playing the Terran alliance. But if you are the attacker, you still get the first shot advantage!

In the battle screen you presently show the ship status as one square box representing the hit points left. It would be neat to also show the status of sheilds.

LightVader, What version of Dark Avatar are you using? The 1.6 beta 5 version has a modified combat system. Under the new beta 5 system, I have set up the scenario you describe above. When I have a single doom ship vs. single defending ship, both do enough damage to kill each other, but the defending ship is stronger so it survives with 1 hp. When I take a fleet of 7 doom ships against the single defending ship, the fleet destroys the defending ship

From Frogboy's reply # 54 I own it . And I love making games. It's a labor of love and GalCiv II has been a tremendous success in the market as well as critically. The game selling 250,000+ copies demonstrates that turn-based strategy gaming is alive and well. But I'd still make games even if the market was smaller than it is. It's not the money that is the motivator. It's making fun, cool and interesting things and more importantly

I was playing a game in God mode with eight opponents set to difficult. I found it quite easy to win, even though I was just about filled off early in the game. But that was mainly because of what I discovered. I had "Doom ships" using medium hulls with 220 of doom ray in each and no defensive capabilities. At first I created fleets of 7 Doom ships. When attacking the ennemy that had large hulls, 30 shield and 160 of black hole drivers. The single enemy ship was always able to destroy

Tech trading, like taxation, invasions, ship battles and most other aspects of this game have been manipulated to give the computer players many extra advantages to make up for the lack of a well designed AI system. Thats why the AI is so easy to beat and fool all the time. It's easier and cheaper to load the odds in the favor of the AI then it is to improve the system. Because, It would not be fun to do .

I just have to ask... has anyone had their head explode yet from all the math? I have a tendency to skip over all that stuff. Its just a war strategy game after all. You just build what you have to in order to make enough transports and ships to take over all the planets. I usually end up with 20 to 100 planets, theres no time to start planning power plants, or any other frills for that sake. Just keep building factories, and labs. The rest is fluff. Whe

AIs like Luck trait (in my curent maso game 7 of 9 have it). Because of the new attack logic in Beta 6, if you don't have luck, your 25% less likely to win a battle. Your attack power is 0 to MAX depending on your luck at the roll of the dice. Sounds like "Risk" a little? So if you don't have luck as your ability all your weapons will be weaker on the average. I don't agree with it, but it is what it is.

You would wonder why, seeing as how the terraforming has long since been done The islands aren't sinking back into the sea or anything. I agree with you. Once the planet has been colonized, it should OK for all civs to live there. Thats the advantage of going to war. You want them to do all the work so you can just kill everyone and steal the planet from them. A hint: You could save the game before you invade, then keep invading until you get

well, it just so happens that i have nothing to do for a month or two and a currently very bored, if someone could give me a few pointers on how to get started, i would definitely like to try to improve the the techtree and anything else that seems lacking. (They might suck but atleast its worth a try right?) You could compile a spreadsheet of all techtree items and copy the existing text description in the first row. Then in the next row type in the new

The battle system still works as it did before. It seems that strategic weapons and defence planning are no longer a part of this game. You used to be able to look at your opponent's ship and equip your fighters with the correct weapons and defence to beat it. Now, it does not matter which weapon or defence you use. If and attacker with only lasers attacks a ship with no shields, it should be reducing the hit points of that ship regardless
