Enough of the fighting over verbage, vulgarity, and wording. Unlike many games, GalCiv is about more than simple military might and civilization size. It's about making the best of what you have, and turning the strengths of a neighbor against them. What race were you, particularly in Dark Avatar? Not every race is the top of the military or production food tree. If you're good at research or diplomacy it's far more important to use that to your advantage than try to outcolo

I think the AI trading needs to be normalized in a lot of ways. One nice thing would be if there was an algorithm for them to find techs I had they liked, and then have them come to me for them, offering more than a 1-1 trade. It's one way in which I feel so differentiated in the abilities of myself and the AI.
This game does a pretty good job of making me feel a bit more immersed than other TBS games, which is nice. It could use work - as could any other game - but it's done quite well overall. The biggest issue with the Drengin is those Super Dominator Cruisers. They get them every now and then and they wont surrender because the Drengin think they're worth something even though they aren't. I'd like to see Super Dominator changed to something like "High Extortion possibilities in
The worst part of Super Dominator is the hordes of useless cruisers, haha. Once you get up high enough in tech they're pretty much worthless.
I have two GB of ram and a 7950 SLI setup, but only a 64bit AMD core, and I drop out at three players worth of units. Every. single. unit. has it's own AI code to excecute, so in a game with multiple players building say, 200 units each... it utterly demolishes current hardware.
Also watch out for building labs early. They cost more than youd think in maintenance.
I'd love to play it, but it lags to death on my system (because while I meet the sysreqs, I dont have a dual core processor. )
A warless game would be interesting, but I'm not sure the AI is set up for it at all. Sometimes I think the AI goes for war because it's the most straightforward - "i have more stuff than you, now I take what I want."
IMO - I will ALWAYS pay for a game, if it's worth it. But so many games don't put out proper demos - a TBS game that the demo lasts for 5 mins is a good example. Stardocks game is so killer - i played it over at my g/f's house - it sold me the first day and I've remained hooked. Bought the game for myself no less than 24 hours later. The real way to stop piracy? Release good games.
Yeah, this is one of the best games I've played in a long time, and I've passed it around to everyone I know in high recommendations.
IMO, tech victory is mostly the victory for "I'm tired of this galaxy, time to play somewhere else." The tech victory is the only victory you can get that doesn't REQUIRE aggressive expanding or interacting with other races - for military you have to wipe everyone out, for influence you have to expand to the point of controlling 75% of the galaxy, and for diplomatic you need to make the surviving civs love you, but research is something you can do totally within your own shell.
I'd like that, except it'd force me to keep more military units around than I already have to stupid warmongering AIs.
I have to admit, sometimes it's hard to be anything more than a military juggernaut. You have to have such a large military to keep the rest of the galaxy from whaling on you, sending them over to whack a neighbor isn't that much of a big deal. Also I wish they'd un-nerf diplomacy. Just because the AI is dumb in diplomacy doesn't mean you should take it away. It means you should make the AI smarter. I think it'd go a long way if they separated "trade value" and "research value" or so
Wow, never realized there were so many other people with Asperger's here. Or on forums in general. Hullo thar! But anyways, yes. I think the only defects that should be screenable are life threatening defects. Aspergers is not life-threatening. Autism isn't either. Down Syndrome can be, so I'm iffy on that. But hair color, skin color, etc... shouldn't be touchable. And I would much rather be born the way I am now, with defected eyes and Aspergers and who knows all the other thing
Mine doesn't work either. Neither does my girlfriends (another copy on another pc, same issue.)
Mind you, the autopilot move happens at the END of the turn you click to end, not at the start of the next turn. You don't REALLY go slower.
Heh, the easiest way to fix most "weird" problems like that is to reset your pc. Helps a lot.
Yeah, even with a killer rig, I get slowdowns. This is something I'd classify as a bug or at least a problem that needs to be fixed because it adds nothing to game play that a "stacked ships" icon wouldn't, but it slaughters frame rate. I dread the Drengin going to war not because of the power (lol, right) of Super Dominator, but because of the massive clumps of corvettes.
