If you want a funny game, try to be at war using an inferior navy. This will make you drop blood tears, but it´s very challenging. Be weak, and the game will be very funny. I like to play with small empires and a medium-low quality navy. This makes me stay at defense, but with some military bases, i can stay in one piece. The diplomacy can do the "research" for me.

After many games, i never take a tech from espionage. I invest heavy to spy the enemy, but i never takes any tech from them. I want to known if anyone was able to take techs from espionage. The other thing: I have the 1.4 version of GC2. And the minor races don´t have espionage slider. How can i spy them???
I think it's possible to stay out of war. I played games where i was never attacked, but if you want build a trade civ, you will be pushed to defend your partners. If you want win the game for influence, you can build some starbases as rayadrel told above and stay out of trouble. But if you want win by alliance, you should build a decent, but not the most powerfull navy, to crush your rivals and defend your friends.
I like to play peacefull games because i´m a trader of heart I play at challenging or thougt levels and full opponents, but only allows alliance victory. With this, you can play a longer game with almost no war, but when the AI beging to build it´s alliances, the hell doors opens. I try to be a peacekeeper, using diplomacy, but the AI blows one to another. My trade go to hell and i become very unhappy. I
Hi. You´re wellcome. I forget another point. Don´t uses your home planet as the economy planet. This is because it is class 10 and you wouldn´t have many tiles to build economic and entertainment improvements. It´s better to use it as the industrial center or research, if it have a tile with 300% research bonus or a manufacture bonus. Hi. I´m using the same strategy as you. I don´t know if you have only three planets or you are using three specialized planets. I think that your lack of tech is because you aren´t using the diplomacy to obtain techs. My key is trade techs (i concentrate in techs that allows me to build trade goods.) Ok. I think that adding engines on a ship, i can build a "light" starship. But i would like to add engines (and the AI too) to the ships, but can be optional add more than one. This could give realism to the game and speed. If you play on tiny maps, no problem, but the larger ones is different. The positive point is that you can build destroyers (faster than a battleship but light armed) and battleship (heavy armed starship). It`s only matter of game speed.

I don´t know why the computer don´t uses engines in his ships. I tend to play in a large galaxy, and the movement is too slow. If i design my ships with engines, the AI will not, so i´m at disadvantange in combat. I belive that the hulls must have a base speed of 0, so the computer players and us should put engines in the ships. This would do the wars more dynamic. Since the movement is slow, i only see the planets while the ships arrives at his destination. (The best planetary graphics
Hi Kryo. I´m not explained me very well. I´m already using the Hyperion shipyard and made a super proyect to upgrade the quality of the ships. I was only making an example of what i want. I was thinking about a super proyect that improve the starships level of experience. Some like an "Academy" for pilots. Another idea is a super proyect that rise the hits points of the starship built on the planet where the proyect is. I make a super proyect that rise the HP of all civ starships, but is not very good, because my idea was make a shipyard planet, where i can build ships enhanced in these areas: starship quality, hits points and speed. Well, you are right about make the scenario. Maybe you can do a "campaing" class of game, so you can play the original story without make a scenario (it´s very tedious). And it could be challenging because you should stand against a Drengin Empire almost from nothing (if you are human). But, yes, if i can make a scenario, what´s the matter?
The story of the game talks about a Drengin Empire that controls many star systems before the discovery of Hyperdrive made by the Humans. So, It could be nice if the races (except humans) beging the game with some star systems colonized. By this way, we are playing the real history in any game, not only in the campaing

Hi. Ì´m new playing GCII, i´m playing V1.0. When i played, i noticed that the computer don´t makes a good defense of it´s planets. Only one or two defenders, one or two cruisers (cruisers? they are "defense frigates") and no more. It´s too easy to take a planet. Just crack down the defense "fleet" (easy), mass-drive the colony (too easy) and take it. I only use 1000 (billions?) of troops against 8000. Almost all time results in success for me.
