Timed the first one-I was right about one thing, it was more than 30 seconds. About 46-47 seconds, even. Then when I just now bought the Drengin's last planet, it froze up for an entire minute and a half. These planets are costing me about 6-7m and I have about 15m at the time of (each) purchase.
There's some planets they refuse to sell at all, though. What are you buying that freezes you for that long? I can't imagine the difference in spe
I personally would recommend avoiding high gravity, toxic worlds entirely. They play havoc on your weight and diet regimen and the surgeon general says they are known to cause cancer and lead to birth defects...
Radioactive worlds, however, are perfectly safe. (Also, what's with the +5% courage for aquatic colonization? Are you like, scared of water or something? Honestly of any colonization tech to have 'courage', I'd vote for Radioact
It sounds like that the ideal setting for you would be with tech trading off, rather than making a majority of the techs untradeable. Yeah, because every weapon tech, nearly every planetary improvement tech, every defense tech, hull tech, government tech, diplomatic, trade, and influence tech, starbase tech, and colonization tech is the "majority". Well, no. they aren't. But you didn't say that you wanted to leav

Programming is nothing but a giant numbers game, so why the code to do this doesn't already know how much each thing is worth in the first place and total it all up is totally beyond me. I just tried it myself, though. With 28mBC I did get a second or two of lag purchasing about 14mBC worth of planets, but no 30 second lag like you describe. I have a QX6700, highly overclocked, however. Going to test one more thing, though. <a href="http://img126.imageshack.us/my.php?image=calc

I once had a game where the Paulos started with two planets. I've never seen that before, or since. Oh and more on-topic - no, the real pain in the ass, IMO, is that they grab the resources while you're doing your colony rush thing. The only way to counter this is to stop the colonization and build constructors. HOWEVER, minor races cheat and know where EVERY resource is. From the first constructor, they've got them beelining for them. Actually, EVERY AI cheats like this. Disap
The ships you get by double-clicking components look strange but this is a science fiction game. Alien naval architects may think they look perfectly normal!
Ah, but nature is symmetrical, and by all observed human and animal psychologists, symmetry is desirable :D

I've found that if I rush Interstellar Republic, nearly every race, even if I do nothing to them, will be 'warm' to me for a very long time. The Drath don't even pay people to try to kill me.

Given that creativity is part of a random number algorithm, it's most likely a division error.

Known issue, no known solution except save/reload, which you'll be doing for eternity thereafter, so a solution it is not.
I've found that since I started playing the beta I'm using the ship designer less, simply because I'm so much more into enjoying the personality of each race.
Oddly, I use it more because of that. I'm designing a unique style for each race.

I play on Challenging / Tough. They aren't USUALLY so fast to start wars, but they've had their moments... and it's always the Iconians they use the most. And yes, when they start a war like that, they instantly start making 'defenders', that usually have no weapons at all. I personally like waiting a bit, selling some worthless stuff to the Drengin, then forcing them into a war with everyone and watch the horde of Super Dominator corvettes crash their empire. What I'm

That was a product of Photoshop, sadly :( I know you saw that and "flipped shit" as it were, because I did when I saw the finished thing ;D - but I know nothing about modding this game. I do know a little about XML style sheets (they're pretty intuitive), but I don't really have the time to start a project like that. Sorry :( I know that with this new GNN screen, not only does it actually act as a news center, but it would actually be something I'd read too, not skip 9

I had a lot of time on my hands (A LOT) and quite possibly created the greatest, most awesome idea for this game. It's a super-awesome way of eliminating ALL the annoying pop-up clutter, while simultaneously presenting it all in one easy-to-read format, while further improving what is already a semi-useless feature. <img src="http://img118.imageshack.us/img118/2972/newgnnhm3.th.jpg" border="0" alt=
Just so you know, many of those things can be turned off in the options menu. Perhaps you should look into that.
The quarterly report and the "end of turn" summary (the end of turn summary is far too useful, however). I can also turn off the 'anomaly found' popup, but it is even worse, as there's NO indication that my ship just bounced across the galaxy. It could be stuck, lost, I have no idea. I'd like to see th
I think that Uranium-235's being obnoxiously harsh (obnoxious because of his insistence on using "retarded" as an insult) about how the game didn't meet his expectations. I certainly don't think he was obligated to like it, but that doesn't necessarily translate into a universal condemnation of the game as garbage. I mean, I do not enjoy MoO1, but I'm not going to rant about how it was a stupid game just because I personally dislike it, when so many others do like it. I mean, unl

One of the most irritating, annoying parts of this game is that at the end of nearly every turn, I have a horde of pop-up dialogs to click through. There's always one bit on each, and I've had over 8 'click actions' between turns just to get to the next turn. Amongst other things, I'm informed of such trivially useless bits of information, like that a mining starbase belonging to the Korx just defected to the Torians (this happens at LEAST once a turn by the midgame). Let me be frank -

Every race, it doesn't matter who or what or when, can tell anyone to declare war on anyone, even if they've never met them. It's easily testable. Start a new game, find someone to talk to (or even ctrl-T for the 'Hail Yourself' cheat), and you can ask them to go to war with any race you've never met. This is immensely powerful for the Drath. This also effects the AI, as the Drath AIs will start telling everyone to go to war with each other just scant weeks into the game. I'd not even

Actually, I just did a comparison of the two Tech Trees. I was mistaken, yes, the Altarians have the same morale buildings the Drath have (temples were not where I thought they were). There is no way the Altarians have a morale problem and the Drath do not. In fact, I photoshopped both tech trees and overlayed them. The Drath have Invisible Hand and War Profiteering. The Altarians have: - Inherent Magic (Ethical Good) - Creative Good (Ethical Good) -
Don't you think it's more effective to argue against what I posted instead of arguing against a distorted parody of what I posted?
With the current system, in long games, by the end, every AI has given each other every tech they have. They effectively play with just one big tech tree. Everyone has seen this happen, everyone knows it happens, and I dare you to deny it. By supporting this behavior (yes, I stand by what I said), you want to eliminate the racial tec
