If you want to use a ship design as a template, just copy the files for it from GC2DarkAvatar/ships to GC2DarkAvatar/shiptemplates. Wicked cool.

My opinion is that it's not really a bug, it's a question of investment. A class 1 planet may yield more usable tiles in the end, but you have to invest a sizable amount of time, money and research to get the full use [...] Unless you are NEUTRAL, or have the automatic terraformer, in which case it will automatically update all the tiles when you land. It's what we call a shake-n-bake colony... <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smile
I wrote the original GalCiv for OS/2 back in 1993 -- 14 years ago. I was 21. And then, one day in the blink of an eye I was 35 years old. Wife. 3 kids. My oldest son played Counterstrike with me the other day and Company of Heroes on my team. How did that happen? I'm too young to have a son that age! Hey, YOU have a paycheck, buddy! In 1993 (when I was 20), I wro
How do you guys know this stuff? Do you know someone working at Stardock? HINT: The thing that says "STARDOCK" next to Kryo's name means he works for StarDock.
Is there a way to easily make thee styles into templates without loading the game in cheat mode or whatever?
Yeah the AI is pretty retarded when it comes to planet colonization . They also ignore anomalies for a long time which is weird Now, to be fair, the AI(s, there are several) is an EXTERMELY complex program, and it is making a large number of decisions. We can't see all of those decisions, and so "retarded" behavior isn't always a sign of inadequacy. That said, the program IS very complex. Anyone familiar with complexity will tell you that complex system
Could somebody describe to me what this bug is? I'm about to start playing the expansion and it sounds like I should know about this. Look for the thread "Defense is now too powerful" or somesuch. I can't find it, or I'd paste a link. This bug probably won't affect your game for a while. Hopefully the patch will be in in time. I am assuming it is a programming thing, not a data thing, so upgrading in the middle of your game will work.
Sorry if this has been brought up, I couldn't find it anywhere: The AI has an unfortunately habit of ignoring Class 1 (if not 2-3) worlds that require special tech to colonize. The problem is that many of these worlds turn out to be pretty good once you hae the techs necessary to unlock colored tiles. I just grabbed a Class 1 worlds that the Krynn, Yor, Torians, and Drath all turned up their noses (or whatever) at. Turns out that, just with habitat improvement, it is something like a cl
It would be cool if the Shipyard screen and ship design screens would give attack, defense, speed, range, and sensor range values for the ship as built, in addition to the base values. For example, right now if you have +25% weapons ability, your ship will be listed as having a gun attack value of 9, when the actual value of the ship will be 10 or 11 when it is built. This is especially important when building scouts ("sensor ships"), where there is no point in adding sensor modules tha
This crash occurred when I ordered a space miner to set up an asteroid base on an asteroid square that was occupied by an allied Iconian fleet. This is a wonderful mod! I haven't really noticed the planets as much as the stars... they are beautiful! My machine is only 800 MHz, albeit with 780ish Mb RAM, and a 256 Mb graphics card, but I have all the settings jacked up as high as they will go, and there is minimal stutter and delay when I zoom in. What delay is there is worth it. StarDock: please consider puting LogicSequence on your payroll, and incorporating his mod wholesale into your next GC product! This mod has added great
Ok, so should we al report it to the bug address and spam them? SHould one of us do it? Let's talk strategy.
I think you are giving them too much credit. There are lots of little things like this wrong with the game that they simply don't care to fix, IMHO. StarDock has put a lot of its eggs in the customer service and value-for-money (as the British might say) baskets. They spend a lot of time listening to what players have to say, and trying to make the game work. There is, however, a LOT to do, and a lot to fix, in a VERY complex program. I am quite sure th
Well, it has been a while since anyone posted on this thread, but I thought I'd give it a stab. Naturally, I have had slightly different experiences with the AI personalities than the other posters here. I agree that human personality MUST play a significant role in determining behavior. I love how the personality of each AI unfolds during a game, until, by mid-game, you usually have your list of loves, hates, and must wipe from the universe races. What especially tickles me is that, ve
Those at Stardock: Is this on any fix list? It would be one of my first choices as things for the "next update". I love the privateer, if it works right. It may be a matter of how the AI is programmed... It probably has some kind of routine that prioritizes targets based on the current situation rather than having scripted target lists. Such a system could be harder to update. This could explain why the AI tends to ignore asteroid mining bases... Maybe.
QUITE WHINING! I make out just fine with speed 4-5 ships on a gigantic map, just because I have low tech. At least, with this Mega Event, you don't have to worry about someone else going FASTER than you! Besides, slow may be a drag, but it can come with advantages. Ask any reptile... oops, don't a
I am playing a 1.50X.072 game. I have Galactic Privateer. All the AIs but one ganged up on me. Every turn I have to sit through 3-5 minutes of each AI sending each of his nearby ships after my eleven freighters (sometimes more than once per ship). I can't pan around the map, because it keeps focusing me on the (non-existant) "battle." Apparently, the AIs aren't getting the message (literally and figuratively) about GP! I mean, it DOES tie up their ships, but I don't feel this is good behavior fo
What if you could negociate with your allies for the right to use their planets and starbases to extend your range? Rather than a permanent thing, it could be on a yearly or biennial basis, and automatically abrogated if the alliance desolved. One possible issue: you need the ability to make it clear to AI players how unhappy you are with their bases being used to attack your territory. Hmm...
But lets face it you are. Evil will abound and dark days will lie ahead. In four billion years (actually less, but I'll leave that to the astroboys), the Earth will be uninhabitable. Somewhat later than that, entropy and universal expansion will have proceeded to the point where living on other worlds will be difficult to ipossible as well. Good or evil, it will all end eventually. Best to concentrate on doing what you believe is right. Th
Are you getting tired yet, Kryo, of repeating that info? Perhaps it should be in a "pinned" post or something. I couldn't find it...
Thanks! I actually ended up reinstalling SDC. I have it now! Thanks for the quick response! Jon
One issue I found: if an AI race surrenders and "wills" its ships to other players, and those ships are upgrading, they can become unusable. I couldn't cancel a 161-turn (!) upgrade taking place on the other side of the galaxy, and I had to scrap the ship. Also: how do I get 1.50X.072? My version of Stardock Central doesn't find it?!?! Thanks, Jon
Bloody hell, I have never had a forum with this many lower-grade Autistic brothers in it, You're kidding me... autism? On a forum for a computer game? Next to academia and the local chess club, this is THE plce to look for any and all sorts of social disfunction. I recall a story on the radio about how folks with Asperger's Syndrome are increasingly taki
UNLUCKY FOOLS! There is a sailor's superstition about renaming ships... you don't do it. I don't know how far this extends... the Germans and Russians don't seem to care too much (not that either has spent much time on naval power, historically). I do wonder sometimes what counts as renaming... the submarine Corpus Christi was "renamed" "City of Corpus Christi," which is really more of a
You know, some planets (like Jupiter), the moon is more habitable than the planet is. Yeah, but in that case you would have to set up a colony , not a "mining base." Habitable is great for colonies, but it comes with significant costs and complications that asteroids don't have: gravity, weather, wildlife, magnetic fields, laws, conservationists, taxes, etc. If you want to colonize major moons, ask for that as a separate request. <img
