Someone should start an empire for just us old guys (and girls, if applicable). I'm 36, for what it's worth.

Music aside, that haunted hotel scared the living crap out of me.
This is illegal. Please report yourself to the nearest RIAA facility for criminal processing. (Kidding aside, I agree that the music is quite good. Not sure I'd want to listen to it when I'm not playing, though, heh. Best soundtrack I've encountered was for Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines. They enlisted some well known gothic musicians like Daniel Ash, Ministry and The Genitorturers to contribute original music just for the game. While that type of music isn't everyone's cup o' tea,
Wheel? Job? Not sure what you mean, sorry. I'm still relatively new to the forums.
choke on you own words ghostwes, never doubt me, i never lie. I am officially choking on my words, LostHero. Oh wait, no, that was just me laughing! Seriously, I'm not sure why you feel the need for such hostility when I was only asking you to prove that your strategy was viable. I guess the fact that it was not viable made you read my words with m
Spin is actually by Robert Charles Wilson, and the most recent Hugo winner. While a very good novel, I'm not sure it really has a lot in common with GalCiv2 -- it's very far from being a space opera. Still, one of the better science fiction novels I've read in a while, and I read a *lot*. I second the Lois McMaster Bujold suggestion, and kick myself for not thinking to mention it earlier. Unlike Spin , very much space opera, though no aliens... sort of. Some of the human of
In the campaign, yes. However, that your strategy works in the campaign doesn't really say much for the strategy in general, though I'll be surprised if it works at all, frankly. Basically, the proof is in the pudding screenshots, which I eagerly await.
Wait... you're trying to do this in a game with Dread Lords as an opponent? Hmm, methinks I will be waiting a bit longer than anticipated...
Thanks for the screenshot, LostHero, but what I actually wanted was proof that the strategy works, ie a screenshot of an actual GalCiv2 game. I do understand the strategy in theory, but I have doubts that it will work in practice, or, rather, that it would be worthwhile using.
LostHero, would you mind providing us with some screenshots of you using this strategy? Sounds intriguing. A similar strategy used to work in... hmm... Civilization II, I think it was. A wall of cheap caravans would prevent the enemy from moving past them. The enemy could attack them, sure, but they would be immobilized unless they did so, both physically and diplomatically. Later in the game, when the wall is less useful, you would move the caravans back toward one of your cities to as
Thanks, Itzok... I'll give those a try.
Purge, those are some great tips! Thank you. I humbly suggest your post would be worthwhile in its own thread so more people will see it. One thing I would like you to expand on, if you don't mind. "Avoid war" sounds good on paper (well, on the monitor), but my opponents often take that choice away from me, especially on the higher levels. I've tried focusing research on Diplomacy tech, as suggested elsewhere by Wyndstar (whose posts I also mine heavily for good tips) but that seems to
I agree completely, Kinjiru. Not very impressed at all.
Ah, so not hacked, then. Hmm, given the nature of some of the posts on this JoeUser thing, I'm rather more disturbed than I was when I assumed the site had been hacked.
Yeah, appears to be hacked.
Yes, in my most recent beta game, my neighbours the Korath parked a spore ship near every one of my planets. I'm not sure if that was a smart move, though... talk about telegraphing your intentions!
I try to focus all of my planets on manufacturing, research or economy. Every tile on every planet is used to enhance that planet's specific focus, with the occasional exception of, say, a +100 research tile on an Econ world being used for a little bit of side research. Because of this, I always have a difficult time deciding where to place the Super Projects, Galactic Achievements and Trade Goods. Some are obvious, of course: Hyperion Shipyard and Spin Control Centre both go on
I have a rather vast collection of science fiction novels, and I have to say that the covers often have absolutely nothing to do with the story inside. This is less of a problem than it used to be. Why, just recently, a cover artist was lauded for actually reading the book before starting the cover art -- good on him!
36, and surprised to find myself of an average age here.
In my experience, the chances are a bit higher than slim -- it seems to happen a lot. Maybe I've just been lucky, but I assumed this was by design.
Please note that the game for this debug was successfully submitted, as per my addendum above. The game still crashes as I attempt to submit it anyway. Hope this helps, and thanks again for looking into it. ==================== Debug Message: Version v1.50x3 Dark Avatar last updated on: Mon Mar 12 18:37:34 2007 Debug Message: Checking DX Version. Yes, I was referring to "Recent Posts" on the left side of www.galciv2.com. Sorry if I was not clear.
Would it be possible to leave off-topic posts out of the recent threads category? I'm fine with wandering into the off-topic section and, lo and behold, finding off-topic threads, but it isn't always obvious from the frontpage of the site where it only lists the title of the thread; half the time, I click on those threads expecting to read about the game, and instead get something very different. While this is not the fault of the poster of those threads, it is kind of annoying.
Okay, thanks, Kryo. Should I post it here? (if so, any information that should be blanked out?) Or should I email it to someone?
Update: It looks like the metaverse score from last night's game was eventually posted; perhaps there was a delay. I am still concerned about the crashing, however.
