I have managed to submit some of my games, but more often than not, DA stops responding and crashes to Windows. This always happens immediately after logging in to the Metaverse at the very end of the game. After being prompted with "Do you want to submit your game?", and entering my username and password, a few seconds pass while it tries to log in and then poof. There is no way to tell if I have successfully submitted my score or not. More often than not, the score does not s

This would have been more worthwhile with an appropriate subject.
Old Man's War is pretty good, I agree. As is the The Forever War (didn't like Forever Peace as much, however). I would also recommend Vernor Vinge's Fire Upon the Deep as a good space opera. Charles Stross's Iron Sunrise and Singularity Sky are also good. Dune is a classic, of course. Not sure that it really captures the feel of GalCiv2, though, except maybe for the intrigue.
Low quality planets I usually use for economy and nothing else, My resort planets as I call them (high population, no starbase, economy, food and happiness buildings only). You might find that high-quality planets make better economy planets, actually. With more spaces, you can plant more farms to build up the population (though don't build too many) and more economy buildings to take advantage of the higher population. My highest-quality planet I leave
Do the Krynn Consulate have a backstory? I played through the DA campaign and did not encounter them, nor are they listed anywhere in the various Databanks pages.
I do find it interesting though, that although my entire civilization is utterly surrounded by these pirates, my tourism industry is booming. Haven't you ever been on that pirate ride at Disney World?
Starflight! That takes me back... wow. Pogonip, if you have not tried it already, Star Control II is very much in the mold of Starflight though, unlike Starflight, it does still hold up as a great game even now (and it's hilarious!) Starflight is one of those games best left to memory -- not only was it very buggy, the game mechanics were broken (why not make your crew all androids?) And I agree that a Star Control-like game would not be unwelcome; it's an idea that, to my kno
By the way, do you mean that any AI capital has the bonus influence? Or whatever planet is currently their capital? After all, when a capital is successfully taken, they move their capital to another planet; presumably, one cannot simply invade each new capital successively, getting an influence bonus from each one?
Thanks for the feedback. I was thinking of putting the starbases well away from any AI planets; I've seen games where there are enormous holes where no AI exists, save the occasional scout/survey craft. Since it's essentially unclaimed territory, I figure that would make it less threatening to the AIs if I prop up some influence. However, if this doesn't net me much in the way of BCs and only makes me a bigger target to the AIs, then perhaps it is not such a good plan after all. There a
I name my ships in a way that tells me immediately what they're fielding and how fast they are, which makes it easier to decide when to upgrade and what to focus on. My naming scheme is as follows: Hull Type Attack# Defense# Speed# Extra (all but hull and speed are optional) So, a few examples: Cg Const 5x + (A cargo constructor with speed 5. The + could be sensors, range, depending on what I can fit and is usually obvious based on the preceding design) <b
This happened in my game earlier today. I agree; it was absolutely devastating... to the AI's militaries. The Arceans were unable to build any ships at all for fear of being blasted out of the sky by pirates. Although I had intended on taking the Arceans out after the more worrisome Korath, I changed my mind when I saw that the pirates were doing a lot of my pre-invasion work for me. A few fast transport ships to slip by the pirates and the Arcean empire was absorbed into my own in no t
Please forgive me if this topic has been covered before; I'm relatively new to the forum. On larger maps, with the right settings, there are often very large areas that are essentially empty and remain so throughout the game. Planting an influence starbase in those areas can provide some income via tourism, but I'm not sure if the gains would be justified by the costs of building and maintaining the starbase. Has anyone explored this as a source of income? Is it worth it?
I like the idea of giving away a planet like that. I wonder, though, whether it would be possible to use the tactic more offensively. Load the planet up with extremely high-maintenance buildings and then offer it as a trojan horse to your opponent. When it comes back to you, just give it away again to someone else. Granted, the opponent would benefit from the output of those buildings, but if it destroys their economy at the same time, that might be a reasonable tradeoff.
Hmm, well I saved the files exactly where you said to: C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2\DarkAvatar\Mods When I went into Options from the main DA screen it did not seem to recognize that a Star Trek mod was installed; I do not have the option of pointing it to the directory above. The only options I have available are "Default" and "Example" (which is for testing Beta1.2) Any ideas?
Although I have had my problems with this mod, I'm happy that you guys are continuing to work on it. I do not share the opinions of Uglycow above, who obviously has some other issues to deal with. I do think, however, that some of your previous instructions have been unclear, especially regarding where to install the mod. The post above by Renfl is much clearer, thanks. I will try to install the mod again and see what happens. Is there anything specific you would like me to loo
Just had the same thing happen as a Species8472 ship attacked me. So much for the Borg theory. This was a largish ship, too, if that helps... ~52hp, I think. As fantastic as the mod looks, this bug unfortunately makes it unplayable. I hope that you will be able to locate the source and fix it. Please let me know if there's any way I can assist you (that does not involve actual modding, of which I know nothing).
Why is it better to wait until later in the game to choose an alignment?
Hello, I have had the same problem with being attacked. I am playing with the most recent build of the mod, the Dark Avatar version as well as the most recent build of DA itself (not sure which, but I updated just prior). The problem occurred on both the previous version of the mod (the one with seven downloadable files, I think) and the two most recent updates of DA. In my first game, I played as the Federation and in the second and third, I played as Klingons (because the Federation a
