Morale is actually harder in the newer revisions, as there have been a couple of nerfs to morale bonuses...But this has had the affect of just making it logical to turn down the maximum population that you let planets obtain and, instead, go for economic buildings with smaller population caps and thus, the origin of this thread. There is absolutely nothing wrong with a planet that has a fully developed population having a morale ~40%. You really only need the higher approval on planets that ne

I don't bother with the early expensive evil weapons. This is one of the advantages of very fast tech. With research focus, I can push up the weapons tech tree pretty fast while I'm building out all those manufacturing centers, making the early evil weapons obsolete very quickly (and one less thing to research). In my medium map games with very fast research I would go with the evil beam weapons for most of the

You will still get points for research, but that is the only thing you get from those research buildings once the tech tree is complete. i'm obviously not an MVer, but i'm curious. would you say you'd get more points by shifting research to econ and industry and supporting larger fleets? i'd assume so. You get more points by shifting. I can't remember the last game whe

I think the total planet count was 917, including class ones. At the end of my colonization phase I had ~50 planets....But the AI was still colonizing even after I had fully built out my planets. So while some of the AIs were probably at ~150 planets by that time, they had far fewer built out planets (90% only have one or two buildings) and there was probably another 200 planets that hadn't yet been colonized. Some only had two or three planets that I would consider to be manufacturing

I don't think I've had a game beyond four real years...But then, I am dangerously ballistic by most peoples standards. I have found that even when the AI does have the resources to crush me, it's very slow in organizing them. This is especially true in the early phase of the game where it's very important to make the best use out of your ships. By the time the AI organizes, I've taken at least half it's planets and it's simply too late. Because of this, I often will tackle an over sized obje

Otherwise, I wait until I need said tech to invade an enemy world. Actually, (and you probably know this) you don't need X Colonization to invade X planet - you can invade any planet - you just have 0 production until you get the X Colonization tech. In addition, your population will continue to grow and you can collect taxes. Meaning you can have a profitabl

Try re-creating them from scratch. If you first created them in an earlier version and then upgraded the program, there is a chance they used to be legal and are now illegal due to some changes in point distribution (DL only I think)...

I would suggest dropping the loyalty bonus and going for morale instead. Also note that many of the morale techs have a built in morale bonus that you get just for researching the tech (displayed in the tech description), without building any buildings, this is a tremendous help. Note that there is a cliffing affect for morale on taxes. There are big morale penalties every time you cross a nine. I.E. 59 to 60. So, ideally, you want to have your tax rate end in a n

You will need Stardock central installed to get the updates: https://www.galciv2.com/Downloads.aspx Also, I think there is some Vista specific stuff....Since I don't have Vista I haven't been reading those threads, but you should be able to find them in these forums.

Pick very fast tech. Turn off super events. 9 minor races. Abundant all, of course! Pick: +50 Economics +20 Morale +50 Social +30 Military Pick the federalists for the economic bonuses. Pick super-breeders. Flip from 100% to 50% approval as cash allows from day 1. This is basically a custom Torian race, but you can get slightly better bonuses with a custom race. The Torians are the only race for which I consider thi

Have these bugs been resolved in the final DA 1.6? When your total number of ships > ~700, the following two problems occur: (1) Most of your new ship pop-ups don't appear on the right side of the screen, until you click the Menu button. (2) The ship list can only handle ~700 ships so when you exceed this point you won't be able to see all your ships. 1) Still happens for me. Plus I get the same iss

If it's any help, my favorite race was displayed as the Torians until I played that extra game to put the Drath on top.

Final Scores: 1. Drengin: 598585 2. Altarian: 370825 3. Iconians: 324800 4. Arcean: 226500 Let me be the first to denounce the Arceans as the Grand Galactic Losers . Yes, they are the race so inept that they can't even successfully pilot a starship into a sun to end their own existence and so cowardly that they can't manage to end their own existence through any other way. The good races think they are to pathetic to bother with, the other neutrals fa

I should be able to declare official results here pretty soon. I will say my Altarian game was a good deal more fun than I was expecting. It did push me into playing as good and on a large map, both of which I had not done in a long time! I was surprised to see the Arceans top out the bottom (if you get my meaning). I thought their super ability was worth more than that... This is probably a good time to start throwing out suggestions for the next tourney. I kno

Not true. Look at my medals, I haven't played more than half my games as the Drath. I've played more as the Drath than any other race, but not half. I'm not sure way the Arceans don't show up for you though...

*** More evenhandedness in determining how voters will react to stands on certain issues. In the 1st version, I felt the game was tilted to the right a little too far. Especially where it came to independent voters, who always seemed to go with the GOP on most relevant issues where that vote might be more split or left leaning than the game portrays. Also, the candidate selection seemed to be a little more favorable for the republican party. No JFK? RFK? FDR? More cand

I would add spend as many points on economics as possible when putting your race together, including getting the federalist party. This also means morale and pop growth bonuses (unless you are a super breeder, which is the ultimate pop growth bonus) Also put a higher priority on galactic resources than the AI does, you can get your unfair share if you do. On bigger maps, put out more survey ships. Stop colonizing before the AI and turn towards building up your inte
