I'm afraid I have to report the AI is still not protecting transports. The Yor just declared war on me and sent three troop transports at me. It was only 4-5 parsecs behind them that the fighters came. Sorry, Stardock, but this is just not good enough.

So, what's the conclusion? Does the player get an advantage over the AI's in that he is not fooled by the enemy's diplomatic translators or is there some kind of mechanism in place to balance this out?
Developers: Why are the races so different in terms of starting abilities? Do 'weak' races like humans get some kind of advantage we can't see? Are there any plans to rebalance the races?
I'm curious about this statement. What AI level you playing Civ 4 in? You do know that any level above Noble the AI is getting significant bonuses right? I'm not quite as good as the experts so I play on prince. Yes, I am well aware the AI gets bonuses. I just downloaded the new
Here's to hoping the AI gets improved in beta 5.
The AI is so bad at combat - even with all AI algorithms (tough difficulty setting) enabled, version 1.1 beta 4 - that it effectively ruins in the game. How can you take the game seriously when the AI -sends troop transports to your well defended planets unprotected -sends single fighters against your fleets -declares war on you while having defenseless freighters/constructors near your forces -builds weapon
The Humans do get a 25% Diplomacy bonus for free. 25% is not one of the choices in the race picks so they get it at no cost. Other races get simmilar things. Try this, go to the human screen and click reset. now look at what has stayed behind. When a race is assigned a % to an ability that is not an option to be picked then it ge
What none of you seem to understand is that what I have listed are the FREE abilities. Sure, the humans get more than 6% logistics - but all except this bonus COSTS them some of the 10 distribution points. The Drath, on the other hand, get all those massive bonuses for FREE - in addition to the 10 points. Insanely unbalanced.
If I have a ship with 1 beam attack and attack an enemy ship with 1 beam defense, is it then impossible for me to damage it? I mean, I will 'roll' an attack of 1 while they will 'roll' a defense of 1, cancelling my attack out, correct? Another case. My ship has 1 beam attack. I'm attacking a ship with 1 gun defense (armor). According to the manual, "non-optimal defenses are also added at a rate of the square root of their value." Is it impossible for me to destroy this ship? <
Some races start out with a lot more bonuses and more techs as well than others. Here is an example of a weak and an overpowered race: Human (weak): Abilities: Logistics +6% Techs: Hyperdrive, xeno communications, xeno engineering Drath (overpowered): Abilities: Defense +50%, military production +25%, diplomacy +25%, espionage +50%, logistics +6% Techs: Hyperdrive, ion drive, galactic warfare, xeno industrial theory, xeno engineerin
Bump.
In a diplomatic victory you 'share' victory with others. It's not as 'complete' a victory as being the sole victor. Is this reflected in terms of end game score?
Kirill, I agree with you 100%. The races being alike is a key weakness in the game. Also, it makes some races overpowered - just look at how many abilities the Drath start with. See my post on the same topic: Link
As far as I can see, while the Civ AI is impressive, the different civs all use the same one. The only difference between the civs lies in the bonuses that they each recieve, which in turn influences how they play. No. The civ leaders have very different personalities. <TABLE cellpadding=8 width="95%" align=center bgColor=#FFF394 cla
I'm not talking about the main screen. I'm talking about the minimap. Surely you will then agree there is an issue?
They do that anyway, have you not realised? The advantage is them not invading your planet. Your enemy can do espionage, and often does, they know exactly what ships your using, they evaluate your strategy. By placing your armada in empty space the enemy can't see the ships themselves unless they have line of sight. actualy you also get a damage bonus. its about +1 damage for every weapon on it. Dont believe me? th
Do ships receive any benefits from being in orbit? I know they repair twice as fast - but is that all? Any combat bonuses? There really needs to be an advantage if there isn't already because there certainly is a huge disadvantage to having your ships in orbit: The enemy can check your ships out, deriving knowledge you don't want him to have such as what type of weapons you specialize in.
If your approval rating reaches 100%, your population growth is doubled. If your approval rate falls below 30%, your population growth will stop. Your population can decrease if your approval rating goes low enough. Your population will also decrease if you can’t provide 1 mt/wk of food for every mil
1. Do starbases generate influence themselves or only boost the influence of other things? 2. Influence starbases give percentage bonuses, say 7%. Seven percent to what? The influence of the planets' in the starbase's radius? 3. Where should I build influence starbases? Near my planets? Near the enemy? 4. If (?) influence starbases boost the influence of their surroundings... do they only affect the influence of what is

You do realize that you can change the starting bonus's to anything you want right? And those race specific bonus's are equaled out with less points to distribute. But if you do reset the point total it removes those 'big locked boni' and instead gives you the points. Nonsense. The Drath get bo
Nobody else thinks this is an issue?
The problem is with how they created the AI - it doesn't model human 'diplomacy' very well. Imagine you'd been playing a multiplayer game. One player is defeated. Would he surrender to the Yor just to spite somebody else? Probably - if he has a vengeful personality. Is it likely that three players would do this? Not really. The game needs to model this. The AI should reflect different human personalities. Here is how it should be: -So
